Post Tune Review & Fans Question

Hey guys, okay so the weather finally cleared up by me and I have been running livernois stage 4x tune and I love it. If I drive normal the car behaves stock, and if I give it more gas it picks up much faster. To me .. It feels ... Right.

I know that the fans stay on longer thus the upgrade for the thermostat, but my question is do they come on more frequently or do they stay on? Because I feel like mine are constantly on and they are pretty loud. I was at the gas station last night and when I walked to my car from the lobby I can hear the fans from a distance.

Just wanted to get you guys input! Thanks!

Moe

I know LME can adjust your fan settings, with the 160 stat the fans come on earlier and stay on longer, you can email them if you notice the fans do not shut off, make also sure the a/c or front defrost is not on cause that can contribute to the fans coming on earlier, also check coolant level, good luck and keep us updated.

Mine are on a lot as well.  LME sets them to come on at 150* which is pretty much anytime the car isn't moving.  When I pull in my driveway they are not on but by the time I get pulled into the garage they come on.

Supposedly, by doing this, the fans don't stop/start as much, saving a lot of wear & tear on them, so they last longer as well.

Did LME tell you that? If so that's a good way to wear out your fans and relays and that can't be good for emissions and fuel economy and I would question that you would even want a hotter plug since the combustion temps would be down and preventing the tip of the plug from reaching the optimum temp for self cleaning.

Generally you want your fan settings to be at least 5 degrees above the thermostats fully open temp rating. If the fan setting(called desired coolant temp in SCT) is set below the what the TSTAT is rated for then essentially you have a fan that is trying to cool fluid that is NOT circulating because the tstat is closed....Useless. It is, however, good to get the fluid circulating sooner for WOT runs once the stat does open. But at that point at least the fan's operation is useful.

With a fan setting below the tstat's rating is will be trying to achieve a temp that's not possible. With a fan setting slightly above the tstat's rating you use the radiator's maximum cooling capabilities and then the fan to supplement cooling when needed.

moem... THE best thing is to ask LME directly. They can tell you and test all this in their own '10-'13 SHOs.  Don't change plugs unless they recommend it... no tuner does btw.  Just saying, no dis...

We don't activate them until after the thermostat would be open. We don't activate them nearly that low. Turning them on before the thermostat is open is just not something that we would ever do.

Jaimie:  Rich mentioned 180F as the fan turn-on temp, is that number accurate?

It is not too far off, he is far closer than aj.

Don't get mad...i never said at what point their fan comes on? That's a vague answer lme ...you can't tell your customer when their fans come on?..proprietary I suppose

AJP,based on your analysis from your other post, the **** is not adding up,ha ha,LOL.Z.

moem... Have you done any datalog or other method to see what the coolant temp is when the fans come on?... that would seem the info needed to stop the speculation.

That would work but he shouldn't have to, especially after asking the people that tuned it...I'd be highly pissed off if I asked them a question and I got their vague reply that said that's not too far off when they could've just said the number

Its always helpful and beneficial to have a vendor like LME to chime in once in a while to assist any issues or concerns someone is having.

Problem though is they chimed in and gave a terrible answer that did really help out their customer...then they wanted to point how far off I was when I never gave a guess. All I said is that the fans should come on higher than the stat rating which is what they said after I did...so basically in short words livernois said the same thing as me but was salty about it and wanted to try and say how far off I was lol
