Anyone interested in a PTU oil cooler setup? The PTU's on the EcoBoost SHO/Explorer/Flex and MKS/MKT have a issue with their PTU fluid overheating to horrible condition and causing failures. Hardest part of the install will be tapping the PTU for the return/feed barb fittings.

You would need to tap a barb fitting at the top of the PTU for feed, one at the bottom of the PTU for return, and it will use a air cooler that would mount upfront. So if the PP setup fixes this problem, what is the difference between the no pp setup? Just curious as I have a 14 Explorer Sport and just had my PTU replaced because it was bad and overheating, doesn't seem like we have any alternatives.
From pictures I have been looking at. The drivers side is different. PP and police packaged cars have a different drivers side plate and has a place for factory cooler lines to hook into. I understand what Mdesign is doing, but don't like the idea of putting aux pump and another cooler in front of car. It almost comes to packaging problem again. Trust me, been looking at it here too.

IIRC newer PTU ('13+) has fill and drain plugs so for the newer vehicles it would be very easy to add a cooler set up using hoses connected to these existing openings with a pump as suggested.
For anyone who replaces their PTU on their own dime you could use the PP PTU with a stock cooler, have hoses made to connect the stock cooler to a small "radiator" set up with a pump to circulate a coolant mix through the system.
Just a thought.

Looks like you can get a new PTU on the 'bay for under 700 too!
