Just found a fraudulent charge on one of our credit cards from  about 1 hour ago. Already called the cc company and canceled all cards on the account.
Stay alert, and keep an eye out on all your accounts.

I just had the same experience this morning!  I download my transactions every morning so I can catch phony charges quick. Glad I don't wait for a monthly statement. Probably would not remember very well after so much time goes by.

Unfortunately my wife has been hit pretty hard this month, first with fraudulent charges with her debit card and today the feds kicked back our tax return because someone has compromised her SS number.

OMG... a compromised SSN?  that has far reaching implications... are they gonna issue her another?

Had that happen a few years ago. They cleared it up pretty quick. Ultimately they set me up to where I have to include a PIN number when I file each year. If not it will reject it. Must be working, hadn't had a fake claim since. Good luck with your situation.

Our CPA seems to think someone accidentally put in their SSN wrong, which very likely could have happened. So now we have to mail in our return and prove her identity with passport, DL and SS card.

Yikes that's scary. I have all my account alerts setup to where anytime a charge is made an alert is sent to my phone. Caught someone a little while ago trying to make a small/feeler charge and I was notified within minutes and shut down the card.

This **** somehow manages to happen to me pretty regularly, with the credit cards.

Now, I couldn't even file my tax 13 return, becasue some **** already filed earlier this year with my SSN.

Zero compassion for asshats that do this **** to people. Should be shot on sight.

When I was in Canada somebody hit my business card for EBPP for $1K at best buy, took about 5 minutes for Chase to clear it up thank goodness.
I don't use that card for anything but with my vendors for paying for product when it's purchased. Somebody got into one of their PC's and stole it.

After this whole Target mess one of my credit cards was hit for $16,000 in fraudulent charges.  Luckily USAA did a great job handling it and all I had to do was sign an affidavit saying it's wasn't me.

Apparently someone bought a lot of go fast car parts with it in South Korea...wish they would have sent me some :(

This stuff scares the cr*p out of me. I check my banking online everyday and go through every item on every charge card each month. But what a hassle.  I have caught, overe the years, probably 4 fraudulent charges on various cards and was issued new cards each time.  I do a lot of charging because it is convenient and  helps me track for personal/business etc, so there is no way around it for me.

As a banker I can say that there is no better protection than checking your accounts on a very regular basis.  I just had fraud on my debit card and a credit card on the same day from the same place.  The charges were $8 and $13.  I copied the line item description and put it in Google and there were tons of complaints about it and they were all small amounts.  Most people were hit on multiple cards at once which drove me to check all of mine and that is how I found the other one.  You can never be too careful but you can't let it control your life.  Just keep on eye on things and report them right away.

Right On!  I take a quick look at my accounts every evening.

Probably what scares me the most is my paypal as it's tied to my banking account. I do have the key pass on it but still. It's one thing when your charge card is hacked because you have recource but once the money is pulled out of your banking account it's a whole other story..

I stopped using my bank account for paypal years ago.
I would rather pay a small fee than get hacked and be in a world of hurt.

Maybe re-do that Jeff? Paypal scares me the most so I linked it to a card for that reason.  Just dispute the claim(s) with your credit card company as soon as you see them or get the statement. Game over, no penalties to you.
