Random and persistent Panic mode triggering.

Started having panic mode going off yesterday morning before work, fought with it for 30min and finally narrowed down to what I thought was the keyfob battery.  replaced it went to work no issues, 5pm lastnight at home it started again.  pulled the keyfob battery and no more problem.  posted here for keyfob part number and went to bed.

Welllllll..  "That's not iiiiit."      11pm lastnight my car panic mode goes off once again, I had to jump out of bed and run out and disconnect the battery.  Thankfully I had the forethought to put the wrench right in the driver's seat and leave the car unlocked.  No battery in the Keyfob, so I know it was not that sending a signal to the car this time.  I got something else going on.

I have extremely low tolerance an patience for electrical gremlins.  Ever car before this that I have had one small minor issue with over time has blossomed into worse and worse problems.  I sold the last car which I really liked because it started having persistent electrical problems.  Battery is showing 12.44v, a which should not be low enough for it to start acting wonky?


Probably disconnect the horn after work today so that I can try and work on it/diagnose without annoying the neighbors or going deaf.  Anyone have any ideas for what to look at?  failing that I will have to spend part of weekend returning the car to stock so I can take it to dealer next week.

Ya.. I had this happen on my escort back in the day.. there were a few early mornings with my in my boxers out front with a wrench disconnecting the battery so I didn't wake the neighborhood...


I know you pulled the battery out of the keyfob, what about the spare keyfob?

buttons on that one do not work, but good point, maybe it is that keyfob...  Since it only happens at home where that one fob is...  However why would it stop happening for so long then pop back up?  Yesterday morning it would simply not stop until I pulled battery out of my fob.  Then all was fine until lastnight.


Left car at home with battery disconnected.  I will pull the spare fob battery when get home and reconnect car batt and see what happens.  I would very much like it if it is just a new fob needed for sure.  Thanks for the idea!

It could be related to a door latch. My Flex had a door latch issue (big recall on them) where until replaced, it would randomly set of the panic mode. Haven't had a problem since getting the latch replaced.

Interesting.  That was probably actually triggering the car alarm though and not panic alarm?  Difference being the actual security alarm would disable the engine I believe?  Was your car able to run when this would happen?  Mine can and does run, and it actually went off when I was in the car with it running at one point.

Hmm hadn't thought about that, seems like you do indeed have a different issue then, sorry!
I'm not sure if mine was immobilized or not, I'd just start hitting the alarm button on the keyfob till it would shut it off

No worries I very much appreciate the input!
Who knows, maybe the alarm does not immobilize and I do have the same problem.


Got home and connected the car battery back up, removed batteries from both fobs.  Moved the car inside the detached garage (so not annoy neighbors if it goes off) and told family to keep ears open for it going off.  All evening and it never went off.  could have gone off overnight as we would not hear it in house sleeping.  IF it does not go off again chances are it was the wife's fob as it was only one with battery in it the last time the car was acting up. Car is staying home for now, I can't deal with something like this during commute or at work.  Plus great weather, so Vert Mustang gets commuter duties instead.
