It occurred to me a few years ago that there aren't really many true accidents...most are people being assholes...if someone near me has an accident because they are dicks I won't help them or call for help...in fact I may call the police and push for them to be cited and fined just to add insult to injury literally..

aj... Yep, drive defensively is not just a cliche'. Doesn't matter who's fault it was as far as the condition of your car following a 50+ mph near head on collision. Especially bad since in Phx people drive 55-60 mph on all major surface streets and the lights are timed for a stop by a car moving 45
Z... I see that a lot, especially when someone pushes a left turn very late in the light cycle or even against a red here in PHX.... It seems that green means "it doesn't matter what's in the road, just go as fast as you can". Combine that with the yellow out here meaning "hurry up and beat the red" plus a red meaning "stop only if it turns red way ahead of you" and it's a recipe for disaster.... And one of my pet peeves!

Glad you weren't in the middle of it, Z! Driving defensively is fine, as long as you know when to take the offensive. With experience, you can reliably predict other drivers' behavior and help lower the probability of an incident occurring. The driver's allegiance should always be to traffic flow AND safety.
I certainly agree especially with the red light cameras being helpful sometimes in identifying who was at fault but can also potentiate more accidents to happen,especially if they know the camera is evident,personally always take caution when family is inside with me ,especially with a 17 year old son,dont want to be a bad influence,thats when the true taurus mode is implemented,just go with the flow nice and slow,thanks.
