Replacing the rear deck 6x9 subwoofers.... What I learned... and questions.

I have another video in the works about a little project that I was working on for replacing my rear deck speakers with JL Audio 6.5" subwoofers. I got the Scosche 6x9 to 6.5 adapters from crutchfield (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-J5sbEjOhGs9/shopsearch/6x9_adapter.html)... I am very disappointed in the whole project.

#1 the 6x9 to 6.5 had to be Dremel'd to fit the JL Audio 6.5" speakers. The outside cage on the woofer was too big.

#2 I had to double up on the adapters because the plastic was too flimsy to use one per side.

#3 I the sound difference was..... NOTHING. The lower range of the JL Audio 6.5" for power handling was 45w, and I was assuming that the factory system is putting out at least that much.

#4 I wonder if someone can find me a wiring diagram to see if I have the subwoofers out of phase. Even when I swapped the positive and negative terminals on one side, the over all sound difference was lack luster.

#5 does anyone know really what the rear woofer wattage is per side? I'm thinking about maybe getting  a small, cheap amplifier to mount on the rear deck to give them a little more drive...

#6 I know it's not a 100% IB (infinite baffle) woofer. I would build a MDF box around it if I needed to, but I'm not really that gungho about the whole Idea. I'd be better just building a custom enclosure for a single 10-12 before playing with the rear deck. Thoughts on boxes that conceal well?

Edit. Just reread your first post jl subs not full range. I think ohm is key here.

What ohm are you new jl speakers. I believe the subs are 2ohm. So putting 4 ohm or higher speakers will immediately cut the power in 1/2. The rear subs are sub frequency only. So if you're running full range it will not sound right.

I have 2 Sundown 10s on 600w rms per sub. Total 1200rms. I got a wedge shape box that fits on that little shelf on in the back of the trunk, against the rear seats. Rest of the audio system is stock and sounds great. I think the stock Sony sound is very good, just needs some bass to back it up.

I've got a Kicker L7 10" sitting around with a 1kw amp... been debating about putting it in.
1. not too sure if i want THAT much bass again (although i love me some bass)
2. how to go about hooking it up to the sony system without breaking the wallet or taking a WHOLE day to install it.

Thanks for everyone's response. I'm disappointed in myself for not realizing the impedance of speaker wasn't the same as factory. I just assumed that it was either a 4 - 8 ohm setup, not a 2 ohm setup. I'm thinking I'm going to hook up a line converter to the stock system's rear 6x9s (For RCAs), and purchase a 8-10" sub + enclosure. I loved the idea of concealing the subwoofers in the rear deck, but honestly, I think that will be more of a pain and I'm noticing that the rear deck flexes with the bass, (which also acts as a cancelling agent as well).

It's all part of the process, I guess.

anyone have suggestions of where I should run the power line through the firewall? I usually always go with a 4GA cable.

I think Lanson is still around from time to time, he is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to car audio. Hopefully he'll chime in if needed.
