Originally, I believe the algorithm weren't honed-in perfectly. Least ways, that's what it was early on with the Dash Hawk.

There's no telling what nannies are implemented into the ECU, controlling the electronic throttle. The plate can be  manipulated for the sake of choking off air at high RPM, in order to reduce load, at the onset of knock detection, and even for the sake of maintaining traction.
