sct x4 install fail

I wouldnt worry about the term ecu recovery...you just need a stock tune file which sct will have which will be your exact strategy.

I would say possibly the canned tune had a value that the ecu didnt like and messed up the checksum data or something then it locked the x4 out from your car

Or im worried about the hard wired devices you run....i never even opened doors or the hood or windows or anything during a reflash...im not sure if power disruptions or data through the can bus cant mess up the flash

update here
i think it was holding the start button for 2-3 secs that also contributed to the fail
now i just touch it once for on and once for off and ive had success four times yesterday for revisions.
i have a full battery and unplug the radar and shut of all heat and radio controls
moving forward

On my XSport, my push-button ignition actions don't seem to match up with the X4 programming instructions. If what you're doing is working, then keep doing it. I stumbled upon this after my second or third flash, and it has worked for me ever since. For reference, this is what I do (note step 3 & 4, specifically):

1) With everything completely off (ignition, headlights, climate, radio) I'll start the "program" procedure on the X4.

2) When prompted to turn on the ignition, I push the push-button TWICE (to turn on the ignition).

3) The tune is initialized and prepared, and prompt is given to turn ignition off, I push the push-button ONCE to turn off the ignition.

4) The prompt is given on the X4 to turn the ignition back on, but I DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING. My car continues it's power down procedure from step 3 above, and as soon as everything powers down, the airbag light comes on, and the programming proceeds.

5) At the conclusion of programming, the X4 specifies  programming complete and turn off the ignition, but my ignition is already off.

Essentially, I don't touch anything after powering off the ignition in step 3. It seems weird, but this process has worked for me for the last dozen or so flashes with no issues whatsoever. YMMV.

On my SHO, I do not hold the buttons either, and once it gets to the actual programming stage the info center on the cluster (both sides) as well as radio screen, go completely black. This is how I know that it is in the proper ignition position.

It did not do this immediately on one re-flash and I had to go back to stock, then re-flash custom again to get my AC to work again.

i have to hit the button 2 times to turn on the dash display-once only lights up the accessory power on the left and maybe the phone access if someone is talking to you plus moves your seat up.
twice brings the dash in- very important

i have failed 2 times in 6 revisions and had to have sct rebuild the files or car wouldn't move.
now ive had a push button start ford focus st with a Cobb for 3 years and 46 revisions and never locked the car up so i hope sharing this will help someone else/

I had an issue with my LMS tuner that was a dead battery / bad batch. LMS replaced it promptly, but it surely scared the crap out of me when my cars dash lit up like a Christmas tree.

I found with the LMS tuner, I don't work through the prompts quickly even though I know the prompts. I hit the ignition button twice (foot off brake), follow the prompts. powering down the car and on.

Also to note, I always have Windows up, doors closed, Bluetooth disabled on my phone, no devices plugged into the car, and fan off. After the tune loads, my fan turns on at about 95% complete and the tune loads successfully. It took a while to trust the tuner after the first load, but I found speed should be for the car, not loading the tune files.

ive had a lot of experience with sct and the derive guys are very helpful.

i have now locked the car up 3 times.
some of my tunes will not delete from the x4 and they said possible corrupt files and i should factory reset it and start over.
before i got it it already was though completely cleared.

also they said 2016 may have a slightly different step in the push to start system compared to 2014- which i thought was interesting.

first i wanna say Rodolfo (Sp) and Kevin at sct are great!
back to stock
did a full factory reset to clear all tunes from x4 that would not delete.
ready to start over with no lock ups hopefully.

car still pulls funny stuff with one button push(turns on accessory  power)and two button(turns on speedo and ever thing else) turn on without starting.
they need to clarify which one is correct to avoid lock ups.

If it is like mine, you want the two press option you mentioned. When they say key on, they mean full power to everything, but engine off. So speedo on, headlights on (if set to auto in a garage or something like that), usually a transmission light lit because car is not running (on my car anyway), etc. etc.

This. Ignition on is x2 button presses (no foot on brake).

I do manually turn off my headlights to not consume unnecessary power, though.

Cobb has a tuner i used on my st for 3 years-has the same pronpts for the push button start but:
* will not proceed if button isn't exactly where it needs to be*
sct will download and finalize with either way then tell you you have an error 10007 and lock up the car

2013 and 15 SHO same for me

1. Long button press foot off brake
2. Double tap button to turn off
3  Long button press foot off brake
4. Double tap after the tune loads for off.
