Sparkplug/race question

So last nite i met up with one of my friends who has a 2008 bmw 535i that wanted to check my new SHO out. After checking it out we decided to do few friendly runs. I won but have some questions. I noticed that my car seems to hesitate a bit while at WOT and its hard to explain. It pulls hard but it seems to "skip" a bit at when accelerating in 2nd-4th gear. It feel more like traction control even tho its off, just odd. Also i tried to brakeboost one time in 2nd and the car juat lost all power after i let go of the brake. Anyways I think its either the gas from the dealerahip that was 87-89 that i mixed 92 with about 5 gallons to make it full once I got home or it could be the sparkplugs. On the maintenance history i do not see anything other that oil change and tires so I am assuming it still has stock plugs at 53k miles. I plan to stay stock until probably june-july of next year but would like to get plugs for it now and new airfilter since the stock one is dirty. What plugs are recommended for staying stock and what filter? Also do I gap them at .030 or .035?

Btw how badly should I have beat the beemer? Off the line it was not even close but from 1st gear I only put about a car on him by 65-70 and from 2nd gear we were even until about top of 3rd where I started to pull a bit and decided to shut it down right away due to excessive speed. Doea that sound about right? Both cars are stock. Oh and I do plan to run 93 w/o ethanol as soon as I go through this tank of gas!

Car and driver has the 535 at 13.9 in the 1/4 mile.
Motor trend has the PP SHO at 13.7. It should of been really close especially if you were on 87 octane.

If I try to brake boost over 25-2600 RPM, the car will dump boost so at least that experience sounds normal. You get into peak TQ at 1700 RPM so I'd start there and experiment.

Yeah, if you were on 87 what you felt could very well have been timing being pulled.

My next suspect would be bad/incorrectly gapped plugs.

I dont have any issues brake boosting but the car has to be in the 'Manual'

I have only done it a couple times, and it was 2nd gear around 25-3000.

Mine ia not pp but that explains why it was close.

I will correct both of these issues today/tomorrow and see if my car drives even better. :D

In the 1/4 the differences between the two disappear.

In a stoplight to stoplight race I believe the PP equipped car would be a tad quicker.

All out top end I believe the non-pp would be the victor.

YMMV

I see, thanks. So what sparkplugs and gap for a stock car with 93 octane?

Motorcraft SP534

If you are stock, I would gap to OEM specs.

Tuned .28-.30 depending on the tuner you choose.

Which reminds me, I need to close my gaps a tad...

If it felt like you were getting a hesitation on the top end'
I would check you're knock sensor wiring to confirm it is not chaffed or grounding out to the block.

I'll try to find the link and update my post.

Found it.

Chaffed Knock Sensor Wires....
Thanks i will look into this also!

Well I checked every autoparts  store in my area and nobody had the plugs so I had them ordered and should be here by tuesday. I will be checking the wires today and also filling it up with 93 octane so that should make a nice difference. Should I go with knn drop in filter or stock paper one? Also I will look at the bov mod too to make the turbos a bit more noticable. Anyone do this mod and habe issues after? From reading the tread nobody has issues but I am a bit nervous. Its my first turbo car and from reading stuff online everyone blows them up and now I am worried about even getting on it lol

If you tune with the 2 suggested (Livernois or Torrie) here you should have no worries on reliability. If you are worried these tuners have many milder tunes to start out with to ease your mind.

I'd suggest using some kind of device to allow you to monitor your car. This is the best piece of mind you can have I think on noticing anything going bad.

As for the filter, something new would be a good idea just so you know it's clean and working how it should. Don't think there's much of a difference in performance.

I will probably go with Torrie once I am ready to tune since I can datalog and he can set the tune exactly for my car. I did the same for my focus with a different tuner (Tom) and was happy. What device do you suggest to monitor the car?

Does one give it a bit more sound over the other? I dont like the idea of oiled filters and will look around for other options. I would like a bit of turbo sound tho, the car pretty much sounds n/a at this point.
