Spring Installation?

who did you all get to install your springs?  how long did it take and how much did it cost?  do you recommend new shocks as well?

just trying to get a sense of what to expect.  because i'm definitely going to get some lowering springs, probably H&Rs since they make a spring specifically for the MKS, maybe Eibach.

i was unsure until recently;  after i got the car back from the dealer i noticed the ride was even more silky smooth than it was before.  i don't mind that, but theres hardly any feel now!  the car just effortlessly glides over everything, it still handles quite well for its size.  the dealer replaced a failed wheel bearing that was making louder and louder noises.  at first i thought it was chopped tires, but that ended up not being the case.  perhaps the very lowlevel vibration that i felt when i got the car was the bearing begginning to go bad.  at the time is just felt like 'feel' coming from the road, and i liked that until the loud noise starting to erupt.

so i'm thinking some lowering springs will produce some feel and better handling without affecting the ride too much.  given the way the car rides now, theres plenty of margin to stiffen up the ride w/o making it harsh...
 
Springs will firm it up for sure.  It should take 2-3 hours maybe.  You should have no problem with the stock shocks but make sure you get an alignment as soon as possible. 
 
I did mine with a friend and it took about 3 hrs. with some issues(as usual).I kinda like the ride better before.Now if you see something like a bump or dip you've got to slow down.Before it would just cruise over stuff like you described.But it looks way better!BTW, I haven't done an alignment (waiting for new tires) but I haven't noticed any change in the steering/handling,so it must me mainly a tire wear issue?

yea, well the ride on the SHO is alot stiffer to begin with.  most who install springs on the SHO just want to lower it for the look.

I just figured you would see my signature and that I have the SHO. It is indeed a stiff spring rate on the H+R's and you feel it on uneven roads.
 
I installed Eibach springs on my 2013 SHO.  Not a terribly hard install, but about 2-3 hours from start to finish.

No.  But I did watch.  :clown:

From what I've seen here, the installation on the 13-14's was a bit easier than on the 10-12 SHO.  My guy had to pull the whole assembly on each front corner.
 
H&Rs were on my radar.

But, if they stiffen to ride too much...eh. Grew tired of that with my Mazda.

My SHO has the PP, so it isn't exactly supple. But I really like it the way it is now. Need to lose that rake though.

Hmmmm...

If you want to loose the rake and keep the same ride quality just install eibachs in the rear.  Mine sits perfectly level now and looks a ton better.  The rear doesn't feel like it floats anymore either.

Are the suspensions different from the SHO and MKS? Would the Megan's coil-overs work on an MKS?

X2 for me here. I want to lose the rake but not make the ride too stiff. Coil overs maybe the ticket.

and i assumed you knew i have a MKS and that you had some first hand knowledge of H&Rs on it.

H&R claims the MKS springs are completely different from the ones they offer on the SHO, so experience with the SHO H&R springs doesn't necessarily mean much regarding the MKS.

from what i hear from individuals who have seen both car builds naked, you can't tell the difference between the two.

any distinction lies in tuning, and extra NVH controls on the MKS like additional sound deadening material and a few additional cross-member supports.

coil overs should work for both.
 
been getting some quotes for springs install.

cheapest so far is $500.00

i didn't expect it to be that much...

i don't believe that one included alignment.

one quote of $775 did include all wheel alignment...
