Thermostat swap

I'm going to eventually swap a 160 thermostat in , before I do it can anyone tell me if I need to bleed out any air or will it bleed out itself after the install ? I'm guessing full coolant to fill line after it loses some and drive it .

with cabin heat on MAX, yes.  Normally a few drive cycles and it should stabilize.  If it does not, you will have to burp it.  A Lisle SpillFree Funnel is helpful in these stubborn situations.

Don't have an SHO.

Oh, and be careful taking the bolts off the housing. They strip easily.  LME does not supply the gasket for the tsat, so you will need to reuse the old one.  Note where it goes on the tstat.  The nipple/vent should be in the 12 o clock position when installed.

Is the t-stat install process the same on '18 models as it was on earlier Ecoboost? I've been out of the loop for a while.

If so, there are shop manual pages for the t-stat install and bleed procedures on this thread (reply #6): http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php/topic,7094.0.html

Assuming the parts are the same, make sure you get the o-ring installed in the correct order.

It’s a pdf attachment in the thread I linked above. In addition, I parked on a steep incline in an attempt to get the degas bottle to the highest point (hoping any air would evacuate easier).

I wouldn’t sweat it too bad. Keep the degas bottle topped off and you can probably just drive as normal. If you hear weird noises, you could try to follow the procedure to rectify.

Got it to work! Seems simple

Thermostat first,then gasket.I would make certain to have some extra coolant on hand for a peace of mind. Z
