Unwrapping My New ATP +2 Turbos! THEY'VE ARRIVED!

"BPD to be released back in the wild, er, workplace".  Noteworthy headlines, no?  If you do end up dropping the cradle, check on the state of the bushings too, see how they're holding up.

LOL... You're like a kid in a candy store. New mods FTW!!!  Hope it all works out the way you expect.
Sorry if it's a stupid question, but...do they mess with the wastegate springs at all or it is it all tuning as far as boost level?

I would yield to 4DR, or to perhaps ATP Staff to answer that question regarding the spring tension settings.

I personally do not know. But I suppose I should.

The wastegates are custom with higher spring tension. On our cars they work backwards of what you would think.
If the turbos have no boost to the wastegates (to atmosphere) you get the maximum boost - spring pressure
If the turbos have boost applied the open thereby reducing boost.
Crazy, huh?
So I am running mine with not boost source to the wastegates which gets me 26psi. I could try to adjust them BUT I'd have to drop the rear turbo and then HOPE I can get a couple more PSI.

Well...... last night was my 1st night back to work in 3+ weeks after having been sick.

As such, to say today is a "re-adjustment" day, as it pertains to any semblance of a sleep cycle would be an understatement.

Slept like crap this morning, and I decided to make a trek out to the mechanic's shop before this season's 1st snowfall arrives. Looks like a rain/snow/ice mix. Yuck. Seems a little earlier than usual.

Anyhow, made it out there, and shot the sh!t with my pal for a little bit.

He had the front OEM turbo already removed, and the new ATP Upgraded Turbo installed in it's place.

He was working on the rear one when I arrived.

My pal commented that the front OEM turbo appeared "pretty tired" adding that there was oil coming from the main seal and the wheels looked less than desirable.

He said that was likely due to pushing the factory turbos beyond their designed capacities.

Nothing unusual really, just said it was "good" that these upgraded one's were going in their place.

So not wanting to be too much in his way, and knowing I still had to get my butt back home to grab me an afternoon power nap as I'm on shift again tonight, I opted to snap a couple of pics of my own.

My pal did say he took some pics on my behalf.... so I'll have to post those when the install's all completed.

Here's a few images of the factory turbo removed, a couple of the new ATP turbo installed, as well as the incredibly restrictive "hot" (pressurized side) of the piping/plumbing, and one or two of the factory electric BOV's.

Enjoy, now going to back to bed.

Yes the hot pipes I developed are 2" straight through. :) Much better flow.
I have 2 sets left! :P
I'll get some pics for you this afternoon of the pipes out of the car.
Great job with the pics!

Nope EBB. I still have yet to put down the deposit on a set.

I hope to do so after I square up with my mechanic for install fee(s), and then incur the shipping cost(s) of shipping cores back to their rightful owners / places.

4DR...... I wish the pics of the newly installed front turbo would've turned out a little bit better.

So much silver shiny stuff under there, it was wreaking havoc on my flash, and focusing.

Ugh....  :wall:

Got a late night, after normal business hours text....

Advising both new turbos are installed and car will be ready for pickup tomorrow afternoon sometime.

Woo Hoo!

He said he's got to finish wrapping up a few loose ends, and that he'll then move onto swapping out both the PTU & REAR DIFF fluids.

2nd time this year the fluids will have been changed.

I'm gonna try and stay on a twice p/ year regimen with those fluids.

Once in Spring. Once in the Fall.

Either way, i'm both surprised, and very happy the car will be done so soon.
Especially considering he got a super late start on Monday.

Nope. Won't either for some time.

I have to.....

A. 1st save up money for the hard hot pipes 4DR's group buy selling
B. Install the above
C. Contact LMS & schedule a new dyno appt (which could be, contingent on their availability/scheduling, a few months off yet)

I'll be fine with the tune file I am currently running.

Not sure if it will.

I know I was just smacking on 18psi with the stock turbos with my current custom/methanol dyno tune file from LMS.

I see no reason why that wouldn't remain the same.

I discussed it at length both prior to turbo install, and then again today with my mechanic friend & he's pretty confident it'll remain as the tune is set now.

So, I should be all good to go.

Besides 4DR, as you and I have personally discussed, with the onset of Winter quickly approaching here in Chicagoland,  I won't be driving like an @ss (for lack of better terms) anyhow.

New tune, or not.

My tune with my upgraded stock turbos hit 23psi without flinching, same tune new turbos wouldn't go over 15 psi with the ECU in charge of boost. I don't just throw this stuff out there, I speak from experience. It's a torque limiting thing, unless LMS has maxed out your torque limits (doubtful) the car will do it's best to keep you reigned in.
We'll see when you get the car though. You should hope it does limit you to 15 psi (500HP on my car) or you'll quickly go lean, if your car starts jerking at WOT you'll know you're going lean and be in my world. :)

You've been yearning for someone to 'be in your world"....

And as such, i've taken the torch you've handed down, and will proudly carry it on for the next lucky recipient to join us in our tuning headaches.

Bwahahahaha.

Hold my hand Daddy 4DR, i'm only a lil bit scared.

Haha you guys and your 500whp talk. With the new turbo I just bought I'm hoping to hit 320whp and keep it their until internals and the fuel system can be addressed to avoid becoming an ecoboom in my little 2.0l :p
