Upgrade questions for new SHO owner

Hello,

Just bought a SHO; was poking at first upgrades to throw at it this week.  Forums were excellent; gave me a good idea on how to approach.

Coming from a WRX STI and Cobb world; the subby was super sensitive to any changes you made to it.  Wanted to know if SHO had the same problems and order of upgrades needed with custom tune.

ie: dropping a air filter on STI without tune caused it to ping and backfire; basically run like crap.  Same for any other change; you always needed to make sure the tune was correct for any aftermarket parts.  Made it challenging at times.

So was thinking the stage 1 kit from livernois; looks like the easiest way to get going?

1.  Can I add downpipes and exhaust without causing issues / no custom tune?
2.  Air intake / filter?
3.  Thermostat?

Going guess the 3 bar map sensor is custom tune only.

Was going add what I can ahead of time and then tune when done, custom exhaust I will bring to a shop and then drive home, add rest of mods and then tune.  Trying to get an idea of best way to approach and minimize risk.

If you came from the cobb world and subie did you read on their site why changing the intake has a huge effect?..it uses a mass air flow sensor

The sho is speed density(map sensor) for primary fuel control....you can basically throw any bolt on on the sho but they dont make huge difference.....need a tune!

^ what he said :)  Yes, you can put in all the parts except the 3 bar without a tune, but the true potential requires a tune.
