Warped and undersized rotors.

My 2013 PP SHO recently has symptoms of warped rotors, vibration and noise when breaking. Gets worse the faster I am moving, of course. Car has 19,000 miles on it and has been down the 1/4 about 20 times but no road course use. Took to a local dealer I have a good relationship with. They found the rear rotors are indeed warped.

They thought they would just turn them but when thickness was checked the rotors are already undersized. At 19,000 I can only assume (there is that word) that this car has either the wrong rotors on it or is equipped with defective parts. New parts arrive today so I may know more later. I hope this is an isolated case and no one else has had this problem but I wanted to let others know of my experience.

At least yours will get covered under warranty.  I know on the 2010-12 models the factory brakes suck.

Hey Don, I`m lucky it is now but I should not have this with the PP at all. Brakes had been very good. Oh well , no damage or pain suffered.

See ya at the track when it cools off???

The rear brakes are engaged more often in today's cars than ever before.  The more you use them when traction control or AWD is required, the more they will wear.  The rear calipers are also notorious for sticking and burning out the rotors/pads early.  Time to get the brake fluid flushed too :)

At 19,000 miles!

Gotta look at miles AND years.  If you were in sunny FL or someplace they don't salt the roads regularly in the winter, I'd be less concerned.

I also have a '13 but non-PP and I bought mine CPO w/ about 14k miles on it.  Ever since day one the brakes were never to my liking and it now has 40k miles on it.  In the past 20k miles I'd say the brakes have been the worst and I'm certain they are warped to hell and back.  Just one solid moderate braking stop/slowdown and they'll make the whole front of the car shake it's so bad now.  I would love to put on some EBC's but I can drop that kind of $$$ on brakes.

I have the EBC upgrade with slotted and drilled rotors and they make a world of difference I bought them for about $700.00 from O'Reilly auto parts of all places they had them in stock.

Haven't tried them on the MKS or SHO but I'very had good luck with BrakeMotive (on Ebay). I've put them on 96 Mustang GT, Escape, and dad's Grand Caravan.  They have them listed for 2012 and older SHO's (even PP) front and rear drilled/slotted for $200 for all 4. Someone on a budget might want to give them a try.

Totally debunked multiple "myths" I'd believe we're fact for many years.

Part number on old rotors were not correct for this car. Rotors replaced and now have the smooth stops I expect. No cost to me as expected.

Really!  I wonder how many others have this same exact issue!  Good to know info, snaf2u, thanks!

WOW! That was from the factory that way?

I would definetly also check to see if any of those stick on weights came off the rims due to heat exposure or sometimes before balancing the rims they dont clean the brake dust and dirt thoroughly causing the weights(magnets)to fall off.  Z

I tried to get more info from the shop but they are no longer talking. I really don`t care as no real problems came from it but I did just want to let anyone who cared about it know. Hopefully there are no more anywhere and I am wasting my time.

Other than the noise and vibration the brakes worked as they should and don`t seem to be better now than they were before. I lost the symptoms but don`t seem to have gained better brakes.

Good motoring to all!!!

I got 40K out of my original brakes.... though I probably should have replaced them sooner....lol Replaced them with OEM.... She still stops great.... I can go deep into the turns and hit the brakes, once they heat up that is.  I do now have the school bus squeak... though... this s normal for theses pads.

I may upgrade to Carbotech pads... but not sure I want an aggressive pad on the street.
