Yah, well I just think that those high priced oils are overkill and how many times a day, a week, a month does every one go to the REDLINE. Anyhow I didn't get a HAT but I do get coupons from Pennzoil.  Has anyone tried the color test yet ??

Lol, every chance I get....

I for one beat the crap out of my SHO lol! It's my daily and with my ~20mi interstate round trip to work everyday usually sees 4 or 5 wot pulls up to 100-110mph on any given day, plus any quick stop light digs thru 1st & 2nd gear I may happen to stumble across in between. I realize probably changing my oil every 2500 miles is overkill but I chalk it up as preventative maintenance really haha

Spoken like a true granny.....yeah my daddys daddy did the color test when a v8 made 175 hp

Ive added 150 ftlbs of tq so the high priced synthetics are not overkill for me when i go 140 in my 4400lb sho....watch this

Good vid ... even if it's a commercial... Amsoil Sig and Penzoil Platinum are the 2 least volatile oils on the NOAC testing.  Also tried to explain LSPI to the wife who gets tired of me always giving enough throttle to get 1-2 gears down shift when accelerating... She doesn't get it.

As far as cost, figuring $7-8K for a new 3.5GDI and install, you can buy 1000 qts of a high end oil (enough for 250,000 to 500,000 miles) and the cost difference is about equal to replacing the engine if you destroy it.

Maybe I'm wasting money... Don't think so... But if I have a catastrophic engine failure I won't feel like I set the stage for it.

I've ran the same combo on all my cars and haven't been disapointed yet. People talk a lot of smack about FRAM but they've been in the fliter business forever and i feel like that should count for something. Also, When u get mobil 1 don't pay $9/qt when u can get a 5 qt jug for 20-30 bucks at your local walmart
below are what i would purchase for the Xsport.

if it was a different car. the quantity of oil might change but that's about it i run these on my non-turbo lancer as well.  0w-30 covers most manufacturer recommended viscosities i think when mobil 1 first starting getting big and didn't have the 0w i used 5w. on my MS3

Ramen noodles have been in business forever but that doesn't mean it's good stuff....Maybe if you are talking about the fram tough guard or the gold canister...But the orange are economy grade poo poo..You get what you pay for..

Lol u made it look like I said all that about noodles too. But no I don't get the basic orange ones. The one in the pic is pretty much the same as Bosch and synthetic Purolator filter. Also. My middle child loves ramen noodles.

A scare tactic Amsoil commercial and I haven't heard a peep out of my engine at 6500 rpm at WOT. I am not going to buy into all that hype to pay a high price for oil that I don't need and hell my 1004cc 190+ hp snowmobile engine that I run at 8860 rpm has oil injection ??

Completely different machines...not comparable...read some stuff...you do know that there are spark tables in the tune addressing LSPI...wait a sec, no you dont lol...and actually amsoil isnt really all that expensive

The first time you hear LSPI (AKA Megaknock) will be the last as your engine will be in pieces.

That video isn't a scare tactic, it's a real phenomenon that the OEM's have encountered as engines get smaller and torque density increases. It doesn't happen on NA engines and it doesn't happen at 6500 RPM, which your car doesn't even hit unless you've had it adjusted in the tune. It's sporadic and spontaneous and all it takes low speed mixed with some boost and a hot spot.

OK I see this thread is going nowhere.  Auggie, you are of course free to use what you feel is right for your vehicle, and we all wish you the best of luck with your strategy.  Keep us updated on how it works out.

SHOdded, I will keep you informed on the condition of my 2015 SHO engine well using conventional 5W-30 Pennzoil. The engine now has around 25000 miles on the OD and I have yet to hear any LSPI at any engine speed and so far this engine does not use any oil between oil changes at least according to the dipstick. There have been some changes to the later model  engines internals to control oil getting into the combustion chamber and diluting the fuel mixture to control LSPI. As you know LSPI can be caused by other factors as well. Anyhow I had fun with this discussion and keep up the good work.
