Wheel hop/motor mounts?

Ok guys, with my latest tune I am seeing massive wheel hop shifting from 1-2. Having owned many other hi horsepower fwd cars I know an easy way to fix that is stronger motor mounts. Had anyone looked into this? Do we have a solution already?

Haven't seen need for new motor mounts yet.  Maybe traction bars, but not motor mounts.

Most times, it comes down to what tires you are running, temperatures, and the roadway/surface you are experiencing hop on.  Also, brake launch should not exceed 2000 rpm, nor should you attempt to brake launch from neutral/park/any gear other than drive.  Better launches with the grannies off as well.  If all components mentioned are good to go, then def ask Torrie to turn it down a little in that range.

Sounds like you have a good track tune. Drop the tire psi and hammer away at a prepped track, but out on the streets you're going to have to baby it at times.

How long ago did you have the H&R installed on your ride, and who installed them?any leaks on the rear shocks, also did you try to revert back to stock to see if its as bad.

I've had the h&rs on for about 2 months. The struts/shocks are all in good condition. I'm running eagle rsa's right now but I'm not that impressed with them.

Wheel hop in my SHO is atrocious when the ambient outdoor temp. is cooler than 50 or 60 degrees or so. Above that, it isn't nearly as miserable.

Still running the OE tires. Supercars or whatever they are. So I agree tires definitely play a large role.

I'd hate to add NVH to such a refined ride with a set of stiffer mounts.

Darreli.... (a member who's no longer active here) looked into motor mounts from a company based out of Missouri.

There was some initial back -n- forth banter on the subject matter, but nothing progressed beyond that.

Also, Darreli installed bags on his rear axle, and the experience was negligible in reducing wheel hop. It helped, just not as much as desired.

FirstSHO..... (another member who's no longer active here) fab'd up custom traction bars, and IIRC, stated that they didn't help him as much as anticipated, and that given the work involved, he likely, if given the chance, wouldn't do them over.

No further discussion has occurred since either above members efforts.

I also have Rsa tires, Unleashed tune. Hops bad when its below 50. I also have the Air lift bags. I think they actually hurt me on the track cause there's no weight transfer. The whole car (Flex) just lifts up and catwalks. Try dropping tire pressure to 28 ish

Polyurethane motor mounts was a huge thing in the DSM world, people were making their own to combat wheel-hop on the FWD DSM's. Some people were running high amounts of power in their 2G FWD (95-99 Eclipse GST or Talon TSi) and creating your own polyurethane mounts became a hot topic. If you search the internet for "DIY polyurethane mounts" you'll get a lot of hits, it is also very inexpensive though time consuming.

I had what I described as  a 1-2 stutter under  WOT .  Can you describe wheel hop to me? Perhaps its the same thing I was experiencing.

I just got a B&G transmission fluid change, rear differential fluid change, coolant change, and PTU fluid change.  I can't swear by it, but the runs I have taken so far, only two of them, there was no shudder/sutter. It's too cold here to really test right now, but I'm going to continue testing to see if somehow, with those preventive maintenance items, it went away.

I'm thinking part of my wheel hop issue is with rear shocks going. As I launch the front end lifts to much because of weak rear shocks + tires spin and lift, then grab and hop up again. Feels like a quick couple jabs to the front suspension.

Glad to hear to cars running like a champ again ;)

While we're at it, what's that shutter feel like to you?

When I hit 2nd at wot it shudders which I'm describing as wheel hop. It comes from the front and it feels like the front is hopping up and down as it spins.

I think We all are describing the same thing. I thought it was transmission based, but wheel hop makes sense too. it doesn't happen with the stock tune when there is significantly less power being delivered. And it doesn't happen except for wide open throttle position from first to second.
