Who has their chrome trim around the windows repainted?

If anyone has any experience with this process I'd appreciate some knowledge sharing, I just had an estimate for getting this painted at local dealership they said they dont recommend it because the paint will come off due to adhesion issues on the chrome. I just wanted to get my window chrome painted bodycolor(darkside metallic).

I know plastidip is an option but I wanted something more professional.  I thought they could just lightly sand the chrome to handle adhesion issues.

Anyone know the ford P/N for this chrome trim so I can lookup the price

thanks,
-Jerry

Good question, I think someone here had it done professionally by taking the chrome off and had it wrapped. I am also curious, I can not recall, but i think i saw a PI with black strips around the door. I wonder if ford has a part number for the PI vehicles and if it should fit without issues...

If you can get a used piece of trim, try Dremel'ing it with sandpaper and check the adhesion of the product of your choice after.  If it works, pay close attention to the trim if not actually removing from vehicle for sanding.

I believe the trim can also be wrapped (vinyl) if you wanted to go that route.

I did mine. Just taped up the car and used Painters Touch 2x gloss black. Had no problems with adhesion.

Any pics from when it was taped up? Curious as to how you did it. Been wanting to paint mine and get rid of the Plastidip.

Don't have a pic all taped up. I also did the grill with it. I really didn't do too much masking up lol. I used a big piece of cardboard and moved it as I sprayed lol. I used PB blaster to clean up the overspray, came right off. Don't have the car anymore fyi

I think i said it once before, and I'll say it again, it just looks sick with the black vinyl wrapped around the chrome.

Just picked my car up this morning, i had to have the bumper repainted, had them slip an interceptor grill in before reassembling,

Thanks for the info, vinyl wrap sounds interesting.  I'm in bucks county pa, anyone know a shop that does that sort of thing near me?

DO WANT!  Was that grill pretty pricey? I wonder how easy the swap is.

Thanks all...she's coming along nicely so far.

Really happy with the vinyl job, holding up perfectly so far.

The grille is from Tommy Designs...who lost buyer confidence, but 2 guys just ordered grilles this week...will keep you guys updated on that process.

Grille runs $700 for upper & lower...after having mine painted once, then the mesh powder coated & the paint stripped and Hydrographics done has the total cost at way more than I'd like to say.

Plastidip looks great and lasts a long time if done right. 2+ years on my trim blackout project.

no idea how hard it was to put on as i let the shop do it, and they're apparently idiots because im going back tomorrow, they didn't secure my lower grill very well and its already popping out on the passenger side of the car, the new grill on the top works great though :P

Just received confirmation the grilles ordered from Tommy arrived 2 weeks after purchase.

local place that did my tint gave me a rough estimate $300 to vinyl wrap, but said I should stop in so they can actually see it
