A tractor trailer blew a tire and sent the retread into my lane, cars on each side of me, no where to go. it ripped the air shield and bolts out from under the car.

Anyone know of any in the mid Atlantic region?
I'll be in Richmond, Virginia next week and Maryland the week after.

I was hoping to pick up a salvage piece since 2013-17 should be the same but may have to go the dealer route.

Is the shield really needed?  I removed mine and leave it off.  I got tired of having to undo it every time I get under the car.

It helps with aero dynamics and it keeps the bottom of the engine/trans a bit cleaner. In a dry climate it could probably be left off but in a climate where the roads get salted, etc. I would keep it on. Having seen my SHO without one after a few hours in the winter (it got ripped off due to ice) I would not willingly leave a car exposed like that. My engine/engine bay looked disgusting from road debris/weather remnants getting up into the bay.

@OP: Make sure that the dealer orders based on VIN if you go that route, OR that you check compatability. The bolts are pretty expensive from the dealer, and require retainer clips as well. You can likely get a close match at a hardware store/home improvement store and save some money.

It keeps the bottom clean.  I've worked on someone else's MKS that's driven around without the shield and mine with the shield and mine was much cleaner from underneath.  Big difference especially if you live somewhere where it snows and there's salt every where.

But is it necessary?  Probably not.

Oh, phew.  I live in Orlando, FL, so snow and salt are not really a concern, lol.  I also hate it when they get worn and start to droop down.  My last car bugged me because I could see the plastic under tray sagging down, while I would walk up to the car.

Ford sometimes installs these parts for a reason! The bottom belly pan cover shield most importantly acts as a aerodynamic feature @ high speeds along with its built in heat shield!

I noticed my hood vibrating in excess of 80 mph finally realizing Ford service forgot to install the bottom cover during an oil change! some food for thought!  Z

Thanks for all the info guys!
Don't think I'll go aftermarket (looks a little different and thinner), if I can't find one in a salvage yard, I'll go to the dealer.

Due to the packaging for the SHO vs. other Taurus models, you will need one FROM A SHO if you get one used. Trust me on this, I had issues with a body shop ordering the wrong one when mine got torn off. This is why I said to order based on VIN earlier.
