160 why this thermostat now

They posted about this earlier..
This new 160 is a direct OEM replacement first off. And then they said, it helps get them even cooler..

I have the 170, and will just leave it be for now.

so what are the temps that make this useful because i live in utah and most of the time is colder and three months out of the year is warmer so im just trying figure out if it is worth it to get it?

I still have the stock thermostat and have not made a decision one way or the other, I'm really happy with my car currently, however, I am not opposed to the 160 if there is a benefit, but would have to change the tune and I am not sure if the tune with the fan changes will work on my older SCT tuner and I don't think it would be worth the extra money if I have to buy a new tuner just to turn the fans on earlier...and when I last checked LMS said there wasn't any updates for the tune I'm running....

I'll be trying out the 160.  Hopefully next week.  I was totally fine with the 170 but LMS made me an offer I couldn't refuse, to try it out.  I will be posting a thread on the whole install with pics and before and after results testing the coolant temps and effect on interior heat.  From what LMS has told me, they felt that the 170 was too close to the 180 stock stat to really make a significant difference.  The 160 will.

DJ, can you go ahead and test your heat coming out of the vents now and I will do the same with my stock T-stat?

I would also like to see if the 160 throws a CEL on a stock tune as I'm not interested in messing up the emissions on my car past removing the 3rd cat, hence my catted PPE's.

Anything that has to be "tuned out" to fool emissions readiness is a no go for me.

I have no way to measure the actual temperature coming out of my vents but I am having no trouble getting enough heat without having to turn up the control.  (We have had sub-zero temps since I swapped the 170)  If I think of it, I will get a probe thremometer.

I suppose it is possible that a 160 could throw a code but I doubt it.  The tune adjustment for T Stats is only for fan control as far as I know.

I'm just going to shove my cooking thermometer in the vent and drive around.

The ECM goes into closed loop very quickly after startup so there may be no issue with emissions. But if the car stays in open loop, it will kill your MPG and open loop is a preset table that I wouldn't want to be playing with WOT.

Maybe someone... (the owner of an OBD2 reader?, LMS?).... can tell us if there is a code related to the 160 degree T-stat.

Just thinking about it, I don't see why it would cause a CEL if running a cold engine at 0 degrees ambient and block temp doesn't ...unless it was some differential temp reading I'm ignorant about....

Let me know what you do with your 170.
