2010 SHO problems.. Rear end clicking and strange throttle responce

Last week my SHO threw 2 o2 sensor codes, so today I replaced the effected sensor. When the old o2 sensor was going bad, I was getting worse and worse MPG's and intermittent hesitation under all throttle conditions.. just as you would expect would happen.

After replacing the sensor and reinstalling the LMS Stage 4+ 93 tune, the car has a weird hesitation when accelerating normally from a stop. If I press the gas pedal normally, the car does nothing for a little more than a second (no revving, no moving) then all of the sudden it will begin to accelerate, not violently, but more quickly than i "commanded" via the gas pedal. It started doing this when the o2 sensor was on its last leg and is now a bit more pronounced with the stage 4+ tune installed.

In a fit of frustration with the funny acceleration problem, i left the line at a green light with a bit of spirit, as it shifted into 2nd (maybe 3rd) the right rear made a very rapid clicking sound that stopped as soon as i unburied the gas pedal.

Any ideas on these two problems?

how are your spark plugs?

x2 on plug check.  Rear clicking would suggest either wheel bearings or RDU (possibly low on fluid?).  The PCM has relearned the strategy?

I got another couple codes this afternoon that points to plugs as well, cylinder 6 misfire!! The plugs literally have 10k miles on them, replaced last summer chasing the cylinder #6 misfire... this car is beginning to be more work than its worth

i wrapped those wires when i replaced all the plugs

Seems to be a weak cylinder for some reason.  Boot seated properly on the plug?  I'd check wiring/resistance/continuity from the plug end to the coil end.  Could be the coil giving way or have something dripping on that area of the coil to short it out.  Maybe even too much dielectric grease.

Also could swap wires/plugs to see if the misfire moves also.  Pulling the plug might give you a culprit to address:  oil, fuel, etc.

tuesday morning ill try swapping the coils around and checking all of the plugs. The gaps were set at the correct "tune" gap when I replaced them last year, so they should be good. Just got back from a 200 mile day trip and almost the entire way the car was acting up, feeling like either the transmission was "slipping" or the throttle was modulating all by itself. My fear is that the ford dealer will claim they cannot reproduce the issue and since its not throwing a code every time that specific problem occurs, that they will not do anything about it.

Until Tuesday, then.  As far as the transmission, could be a sensor issue such as transmission range sensor, TSS & OSS sensors, etc.  Ford seems to be pushing harder nowadays to have the dealer reproduce symptoms before warranty work, so hopefully you can find a dealer that will work with you.

Im probably describing the "transmission" problem poorly.. its probably not even associated with the transmission (at least I hope its not) after the car gets warmed up, under all loads and driving conditions except moderate exceleration it feels like a combination of an ignition "miss" and the transmission slipping. Its not a violent condition like the full on misfire most of us have seen, but I can feel it and it is aggravating.

Sounds like a big brother to what my 2010 is doing. I describe mine as first, usually at low speed, a feeling of power loss followed by tranny feeling like it slipped into neutral, followed by a potentially harsh banging re-engagement. Mine used to do it more often and worse but the valve body TSB # 11 9 11 improved problem a lot. All I'm left with right now is infrequent and mild symptoms. Good that it's not worse, but bad in that Ford wont do the two sensor repair till they experience it on a test drive and I can't seem to make that happen and the diagnostic fee for every try is getting old! Starting to feel like Fords version of the GM ignition switch.

If you are messing around with the coils, inspect the boots. The little coil spring inside has a tendency to get messed up with doing plugs. It happened to me, and I had a really weird occasional misfire under load only.

when you say you loaded the new tune was it tuned before aswell? does the problem happen with stock tune?

Oh my SHO absolutely does the "hard engagement" a few times a week.. usually when I coast or lightly brake, then begin to accelerate at a normal rate, the neutral feeling, then BAM, into gear and usually followed by a downshift. That is on the long list of why I regret buying this car... It has been a very bad experience, I am sad to say.

I noticed the spark plug boot problem when I changed the plugs out last summer. Two of my boots were actually fuzed to the spark plug and had to be replaced because they tore when they finally separated from the plug. Its a pain in the but to fish that spring out with needle nose pliers. I was very careful to replace them all properly... what a stupid design.

So far with this car I have had a raccoon bend the radar bracket, the dealer replaced the bracket, but ruined my radar in the process (with no radar there is no cruise control).. To top that off, when i took the car back to have the radar looked at again, they (the dealer) left the air dam screws off the car, so that thing flapping around tore the bumper... Ford won't fix any of it.

Of course the multi cylinder misfire happened within a week of taking it home..

Both front wheel bearings had to be replaced after a "spirited" drive down deals gap ( the tail of the dragon). This happened at 35k miles, seems a bit pre-mature to me.

I learned after buying the car (certified used btw) that the wheels and tires were WAY to worn/damaged to have ever passed that inspection, so the car should have gotten new wheels and tires before i ever took it home. Of course the dealer said that all of that wear and damage (the wheels were quite curbed) could have happened when I drove the car home 150 miles, ya...

Needless to say, owning this car has been the worst experience I have ever had with a vehicle. Never again will I buy another ford... its sad, because I really loved the brand before dealing with Jim O'Neal Ford in Sellersburg, Indiana. The service manager leaves quite a bit to be desired.
