2013 + 14 Caliper covers

well      .........  here come the hate mail ..... on a 40, 000 + car

I think they look  cheesy .....just my opinion

They are really just another appearance mod.  Some will like, others not.  There have been reports that they do reduce brake dust.  I can believe that.  I don't think the silver or black look too bad but they are not for me.

Painting the calipers is not an easy task for the average DIY'er, nor is finding SHO-specific painted calipers in your color of choice :( .  Might be easier to engrave the caliper & paint the engraved part.  Short of these options, the covers are the way to go!

agreed.. and no! I would't put the fake Brembo covers on at all!

So what's different about the Brembo covers than these?

sure.. if they were Brembo brakes that somehow don't say brembo on them.. then why not..

thats like putting Cadillac emblems on your Sunfire.......

I would question that as it would also hold more heat in close to the rotor and pads then..... Is that what we want here?

No!  Very good point.  Didn't think of that.

:rip: This subject has been beat to death.  It seems that people either like or don't like the caliper covers.  It also seems that those who don't care for them can't be let it go at that but have to make some negative comment about the covers.  The covers are high quality with engraved (well probably stamped into the metal) and I like the cleaner look of the caliper area and the fact that the do reduce dust.  Believe me there are a ton of mods I've seen that I don't care but I really don't see any reason to knock something that someone does to their car, especially if they like the look.  I've had my covers since April 2011 and they still look like new and really blend nicely with the stock wheels. I can tell you they are worth the cost, they are a quality piece and are easy to install, and I found the MGP has good customer support.

According to MGP they actually will help remove heat from the caliper...I don't know if it's true or not, but I do know that I have never had a heat problem with my brakes.

I personally don't like the look of the callipers as they come out OEM.
I am not a fan of the covers, but they are a good solution to look cleaner and I think it's a step in the good direction. It would be cheezy indeed to have Brembo written on them, but nobody is doing that.
I wanted my callipers to be painted in red while they were redoing my wheels in tuxedo black, but they refused for security purposes (?!?)...
I would like to dig further on the possibility to have them powder coated. Anyone did it?
Thanks!

This guy does whatever he wants to his car and thinks it looks good too.

All kidding aside. how do they attach.  I've just never used caliper covers and don't want to take my wheels off to find this out.  Couldn't find install instructions on the website.
:read:
What is the standard method used?
Does it create a problem for the mechanics when I get my brakes done? Are they liable to damage them?
Thanks.

They attach to the top and bottom of the caliper with a stainless clip and then there is a small nut that attaches the cover to the clips.  They don't create any problems, it only takes about 3-4 minutes to install or remove them.  It would be hard a mechanic to damage the covers since they are aircraft grade aluminium. My mechanic has never complained about them and he has had to remove them at least 3 different occasions to do the required state inspection.

And as long as he likes it, what difference does it make to anyone else.  It's his car and if that's what he likes, doesn't bother me...however, I can't see me doing anything like that to a vehicle!

Ok.  What's next on this site?  Those Buick "porthole" stickers?

I felt like I needed to chime in here to save anyone from wasting $200 on these things. These will eventually heat and warp, causing them to rattle. If you want to spice up your brake calipers I suggest doing it the right way, also cost is less than $50.

1. Go buy Dupli-Color Brake Caliper Paint Kit or Dupli-Color Engine Enamel
2. Take off your wheel, clean the brake caliper
3. Tape off/place a bag around your rotors and other components in the area
4. Apply 2-3 light coats
5. Apply custom made decal (You can get SHO and TAURUS or whatever, link below)
6. Apply 2 coats of Dupli-Color Engine Enamel Clear

Enjoy your factory looking performance calipers and not a thin piece of metal that most likely is trapping heat. Also for the record, most brake caliper paint kits (I know Dupli-Color is one of them) use ceramic in their paint which actually has a real world effect on reducing heat.
