Auto dimming mirrors

Was hoping someone out there might be able to answer a question for me regarding the auto dimming rear view and side view mirrors. I, vaguely, recall all three of them dimming before and the past couple of days only my rear view and DS mirror dim... Now I may be mistaken so that's why I'm coming here for clarification so that I can either put the thought to rest or get it repaired. Thanks fellas!
Also, where is the sensor for the auto dimming mirrors located?

On my 2011 it only dims on DS and rear view.

Owner's manual states interior and driver side mirror auto-dimming only.  No idea where the sensors are located.

Sensors are in the rear view mirror at the bottom. The two little white squares.

The passenger side mirror only dims on the Lincoln MKS. The drivers side, and rear view mirrors dimming are awesome in heavy traffic, love'em.

However, both exterior mirrors are heated on both models. Which, over the last few foggy weeks have been awesome.
