The inside of the intake is incredibly rough! That was a really good idea of this guy you're using to smooth it out like he did; I'm impressed!!.

I know how important it is on so many different cars to have an intake that that is done properly, especially when boosted. The question is, do you know how much this particular mod will add to the over-all HP numbers you are going after? I know the bigger the HP numbers the more important a properly done intake is.

I'm wondering what a mildly modified SHO's HP numbers might be with just a modified intake like this your's would be?  BIG thanks for posting all these pioneering things!

@griggs......

Thanks, and I'll have to ask.

Given that I'm touching upon pretty much every possible aspect of the build, it may be challenging to arrive at a specific HP number increase, but I'll ask and re-post.

I'm going to imagine that it would be the machine shop owner's best guess of an average range or value if you will, based upon his year's of experience.

Just sent the machine shop owner the following text..... (see the screenshot image):

Answer to question #1:

"The hp gains are all related too the application and the supporting modification done to the motor but on a application as your build gains are going to be ruffly 15-25hp."

Answer to question #2:

"As for the weld getting through to the inside. It doesn't when u weld aluminum  you dont want full penetration to the point of "sugaring" on the inside. What that does is it weakens the base material around the weld and will likely fail. The strenght of the weld is done with the filler material added to the surface of the weld. So as for the inside it will just be a slim line that wont effect flow at all."

Question #3 has yet to be answered.

Figured I'd copy/paste (and post) the replies he has provided thus far.

Hope that's of some help.

With your build plans, I wouldn't be surprised if you get the full 25 HP. As much as you may have spent on the intake alone, I still like to consider that upgrade as "free" ponies lol.

Excited to see this happening for sure! Although... curious how the drive train is gonna hold up.. TC will help but the rest of the system.. aye.. it gonna take a beating!

10/09/19......

Got more intake porn pics that were sent to me earlier today. Still a work in progress mind you, as the machine shop owner said that these are just roughed in with a carbide bit. More finishing work yet to be completed. But thought I'd share with y'all.

Machine shop owner also seems to be getting more and more excited as he continues immersing himself into this project.

He stated the following: "Just wait till you see the heads. I dont want to release and pics til I do some more testing on the flow bench but they are becoming quite the monster. Just been modifying and testing, modifying and testing, and we are still seeing improvements across the board! You will receive data sheets as well, of the flow data."

He did educate me about etiquette as it relates to the posting of the pictures of the heads (when ever they are sent to me) explaining that porters in the industry don't typically like sharing such imagery, as that is "like gold" to them. But he followed up with saying that he wouldn't necessarily mind as he doesn't have much in stake in this platform. Most of his work is in/on the import scene. So I'll discuss with him further.

I did relate to him that it's nice to begin getting excited about the car once again, as it has been a pretty depressing season for me since the failure and having outlayed lots of money to date, with results merely trickling in. But in the same token, I also understand that's the sacrifice needed for such intricate work.

To which he replied the following: "Well I know I would be if this was my project, because your doing this to this platform that hands down, no one has ever done. I am talking motor wise. I have done my homework and the intensity and details in work, port work, and treatment technology. No one on your platform has done."

We concluded with me saying that I hope any future consideration to be part of the "Featured Vehicle" display at the Ford National's would (hopefully) be accepted, as in theory, the investment of time, talent, and treasure will be leaps and bounds of where it was at, prior to this same event for 2019 (& I was accepted, but unable to attend due to the failure).

Which he commented: "Yea I think with the reborn of this car, and all the modifications done, that it should be accepted no problem. And at that point its like a piece of art!".

So just thought to provide an update. Hope everyone's doing well.

Man this has to feel really, REALLY good knowing someone with this much passion is working on your car! Reading the quotes from machinist about the heads and such is eye candy alone!

Fantastic pics of the work in progress and I'm picturing air flying through the intake at new velocities never seen before lol. This build is on a whole new level and you are really going to use those brakes to the fullest to slow this thing down man!!

10/31/19......

A few things to report since last update.

Machine shop is chugging along on the porting/polishing of the heads..... advising that with each successive effort, followed up by placing heads on bench and flow testing, they're continuing to see repetitive improvements. Shop owner said he's really impressed with the head design as msg'd by FMC, but commented that the gains he's seeing, are astounding. So pretty happy about that development. A solitary, in progress pic was sent and is shown below.

Also, fellow SHO owner Andrew B. (his SHO depicted below) also was instrumental in developing the lower front end splitter for our platform, and I am proud to report that Andrew is finalizing product development, and is ready to ship out orders for same. I've paid for mine in full, and am awaiting delivery to my residence, after the upgraded, Carbon Fiber rods come in. Thanks Andrew!!

I also have an inquiry into PPE Engineering that is awaiting a response as of this posting, inquiring if they would like me to ship to them, my OEM Exhaust Manifolds, to allow them to personally look over same, to see if any improvement can be had on them. If not, then I'll just have them sent to JET-HOT for their ceramic coating applied, just like the DP's will be that PPE is developing for me.

Haven't heard any updates yet from the trans vendor who has my transmission. So that's still in limbo.

What else?? Oh yea, my long time mechanic pal is relocating to a different facility, due to his current property owner nearly doubling his rent. As such, he has requested that the shell of my SHO be flat bedded over to my residence so that I can store in my own garage, to prevent any issues/unintended damage, etc.

I told him sure thing. I also mentioned that doing so will allow me to clean up the engine bay and whatnot, in great detail, since it's an empty shell of an opening.

That's pretty much it for now. As I stated previously,  hope everyone's doing well and Happy Halloween to all!

That's awesome!  I really like how he commented about how impressed he was.  Considering he does this for a living, his threshold for being impressed has to be up there.

11/02/19......

More assembly work completed.

Also having machine shop research different cam offerings above and beyond OEM.

Continued forward progress is always good!

11/15/19.......

Been a lil quiet as of late.

So I texted the machine shop owner twice for updates, and his reply is posted as a screenshot.

That reply was on Wednesday evening, and I was waiting for pics to arrive today as is stated in his message, but alas nothing came across my phone.

So figured I'd at least post up the info that he did provide me.

Moving along,  I received the new Reische 170 Thermo, as well as the custom made splitter for the front bumper and carbon fiber rods as well.

I immediately brought them over to the body shop along with my front bumper cover, and dropped both off for them to handle.

I am having them remove the near 7yr old 3M Clear Bra paint protection film which began to yellow,  and having them repair/repaint both the entire front cover (couple areas where big rocks penetrated the film and knicked the paint) as well as having them repair/repaint the existing lower front chin spoiler PRIOR TO them installing/attaching/fastening the new splitter to the spoiler.

Also having them repair/repaint the outer frames of BOTH the upper AND lower custom grilles, as those were never clear bra'd, and they each have their share of accumulated rock dings, blemishes etc.

Once all that's done, then gonna have to wait 30 days before having it all re-clear bra'd once again.

Also learned that PPE finished my pipes, and they were just shipped out today, via FedEx to JET-HOT for the next part of the process.

Also am looking into having the factory exhaust manifolds undergo a process called "extrude honing" for better flow and removing any factory imperfections. Researching vendors currently. Also placed an inquiry into JET-HOT to see if they can also apply their 2500 degree coating to the manifolds, and their heat shields.

Finally, I learned from my long time mechanic  pal/friend, that he contacted the vendor who has my trans, it's been taken apart and is undergoing inspection now to see what is what and where and blah blah blah. So that's beginning to make some progress.

Snail's pace it seems. But there's so much going on, and all in separate ways, that it's becoming challenging to keep track of.

That's it for now. Hope this finds everyone well and enjoy your upcoming Thanksgiving holiday!

Ok, so I found out why the recent silence from the machine shop. I awoke this morning to more engine porn pics.

The pics were a (very pleasant) surprise, and I did not realize the shop owner had been doing this.

Extreme valve modifications. Now I have the tech info on the various degrees and what not for all of the following:

Valves, seat cuts, back cuts, contact patches, and full radius info on exhaust seats, but I am withholding that info as I am trying to be respectful to the machine shop owner.

But pics posted below, say it all. Very obvious to even the untrained eye.

He also sent some pics over on the continued modification of the heads, individual bowls, and how they are continuing to show repeated increased flow/improvement with each/every subsequent revision.

We also chatted up about the factory exhaust manifolds. I'm consolidating the convo severely, to simply report that this same shop will be fabricating completely one off, custom manifolds. Which when done, will also be ceramic coated with the JET-HOT 2500 degree thermal coating.

HUGE DEVELOPMENT on this last part, and as far as I know, will be a platform 1st for the GEN4/GEN5 SHO.

To see the level of excitement and enthusiasm on the shop owner's face, is truly something to witness. Downright infectious and it is beginning to make me even that much more excited as things seem to finally be coming along,  after me having crapped out a lot of money the past several months.

More info and pics forthcoming as they are provided to me. Everyone enjoy your weekend!
