bpd1151's 2010 SHO Rebuild Thread....

And, I might add, this right here is..... bar none, the (literal) BEST MOD I've performed to date.

Good riddance.......

Lol looking at your previous posts I wondered how long it would take you to scrape that crap off. And now I have my answer, good riddance I say!

Hey I was curious .. Any head mods going in for flow?  Been super curious if better flow would allow for another 400-500 rpm ..

Yes.

As far as specifics? I am not able to disclose at this time.

But that info will be being spoken about eventually.

Hooey pricey pricey! Today I ordered the OCC from UPR.

Along with all possible/available upgrades.

Crirmeny. Sure hoping its worthy of the investment.

One more piece of the equation.

01/27/20......

Placed an email inquiry to x35 Designs, in regards to their new product offering (Phenolic Spacers) and expressed willingness to pay in full immediately, to facilitate a quick turn around.

Also, received data from the machine shop owner this morning regarding flow data on BOTH the Intake, and the Exhaust ports, for all of the extreme custom porting work that has been performed on my heads.

The data displays 'BEFORE' and 'AFTER' #'s for public consumption. I have been told this improvement (a nearly 26% increase on the intake side, and 44% increase on the exhaust side) is projected to provide an 80 to 85hp improvement on just this one modification alone.

Getting more excited as the clarity and culmination of several months worth of work, is beginning to show HUGE improvements in many areas.

Hope everyone's New Year is off to a great start! Enjoy!

02/08/20......

Heads are nearly complete.

Machine shop owner began researching cams, and pretty much came up empty handed.

As such, we have decided to roll with custom, upsized/enlarged valves, to make up for a slight anticipated cfm loss from a replacement stock cam not being able to hit the peak flow #'s achieved from the custom porting.

The aforementioned netting us a slight gain. Which is great.

Having a few more items thermal coated.

Assembly work beginning soon, and more engine porn pics should be forthcoming.

Re-visited / re-discussed turbo's again. Still being told to stay put with the ATP's (for now). There's some curiosity in where they'll max out as it relates to my build specifically.

The expectation is we will max them out, and when that occurs, we'll re-approach and will go with a completely custom, one-off turbo set up in the future. Which is fine, as it'll give me time to work more O.T. and save up $$$$$. Likely have to modify the DP's at that time as well.

Ummm..... what else?

Being told the trans vendor's waiting on a few more parts. But it's coming along. Also was told that the trans was in much better shape than the vendor anticipated. Stated there was some minor scoring on the trans pump itself, but otherwise, all else checked out good. Still, the trans vendor knows my desired goals, and is doing their best to build something decent that'll take the anticipated abuse. Fingers crossed.

Received the UPR dual OCC. All aspects of the kit appear well built, beefy/sturdy.

Looks like we'll be rolling with an SCT based tuning device. Likely gonna get the 'Livewire +TS' or whatever the latest offering is.

A continued work in progress. I'll post pics as they are provided to me. Hope everyone's doing well.

Awesome stuff Mike!!! Super stoked to see how this build comes out. Good to see someone pushing the platform even further(oh wait, you have been doing that since the start lol!) and hopefully produce some new exciting stuff the rest of the community to snap up.

Interesting about the cams? You might want to ping Matt Robinson at Gearhead... just saying...

Also, I might hit you up outside of this forum, but I am REALLY interested in what your trans shop is cooking up...

02/10/2020.......

Thank you to all who have provided suggestions regarding cams.

I have consulted with (and have passed along the info to) my builder, who replied that he will research and crunch #'s so to speak, to potentially make use of whatever is best for my application specifically.

Pistons have been completed and pics provided earlier today. Chugging along on the train of progress.

Man! Never heard of that super six motor sports company before, but their offerings look pretty awesome! Thanks for posting that.

02/12/2020.....

Received these pics and info from machine shop today. Factory/OEM on the left. Upgraded on the right.

"The new valve springs have arrived with a seat pressure of 67 ftlbs and open pressure of 140 ftlbs. Factory spring pressure was 51 ftlbs seat and 95 ftlbs open. The added spring pressure is too aid in the added boost pressure on the back side of the valve's and also for the slight added weight with the oversized valves. Too guarantee it will never have valve float." ----shop owner

No valve float huh :) >:)  sounds an AWFUL lot like it will rev more than 6300 rpm :)

02/25/20.......

Recv'd some pics from the engine builder/machine shop owner today.

Block has been milled/polished and have been told that the short block portion of the re-assembly should be on track to begin by week's end, or by next week sometime.

Couple of pics of that, as well as a little something something lurking inside that cardboard container.

As Brad Pitt exclaimed toward's the end of the movie SEVEN that he starred in.....

"What's in the BOXXXXXXXX!?!?!?"

That's Beautiful...it really is!  Blowing up the old engine might be the best thing that ever happened in hind site.
