I had a Typhoon on my 2012 Limited but I took it out.  I felt that the noise was too much for a more luxury oriented car.  But now with the SHO, I'm thinking I'd like it.  The "oiled" part doesn't bother me.  I've heard the horror stories but I've had K&Ns on at least a dozen cars.

Tod-I know you are driving a Lincoln and have said you may someday get tired of the noise but what would you think of the Typhoon in a SHO?

Well, I am not tired of it yet.  And for an SHO, it seems even more fitting.  Just to be clear on my position, no idea what gains are positive or negative - I have it for the audible and visual "improvements"  The sound is just awesome to me, though I may posssibly tire of it someday, in which case I just put the stock unit back in with my K&N drop in.  In an SHO, I think the sound would be even more welcome due to the generally sportier nature of the car.

And for oiled/non oiled - I agree.  I have used K&N oiled products (drop ins) for 20 years with no issues.  I just find that cleaning them and properly oiling them is a messy job.  I like the non oiled in the Airaid for that reason only.  BUT, the K&N only take about 15 minutes to clean and oil and only has to be cleaned once a year (or less), so take my whining with a grain of salt. LOL

And yes, if you are light on the throttle, like if passengers are in the car, it sounds pretty much normal.  On the gas hard though, it sounds like a mean air sucking machine and the BOV noise when you let off is music to my ears.  It's just fun.

I don't mind cleaning  oiling my K&N air filters it's easy and quick. I just let it sit in the sun to dry real good after I wash it then come back and spray the oil on later.

Can you post some video of the K&N Typhoon sound driving inside and maybe from the outside of the car driving by ?!?!!!!! :) Do you think it's audible from outside / driving by ??

I agree with adding a more sportier touch to the car :) I ordered one of those 3.5L Twin Turbo badges to put on my trunk recently too. I get a lot of cars pulling up to me lookng at the car with curiosity but either they think my "Taurus" is not worthy of playing with or they're scared lol. I want to diferentiate those who are scared with those who think my SHO is not worthy by adding a "TT" badge and some sound to let them know this ecoboost is not a fat @$$ 4 cylinder economy car.

Someone already bought one of the Typhoons since I did last night.  Are you here sir?

Looks like there is another seller on e bay selling the typhoon for 200 shipped...tempting...

i agree with mark, love my airaid & K&N didn't have one when i got mine. i still can't believe you don't pickup some hp, if for nothing else straightening out the air intake pipe compared to the accordian pipe on the std drop in. if not  anyway when you show your car & don't have a cai points are deducted. guaranteed 2 cars same one with/& one without the one with will win. also mark told me about the prefilter sock, it's definitely worth, just wash it & you never have to fool with filter. & 68 couldn't agree with you more now that from the back you can't tell a SHO from any of the other Taurus's because tail pipes look the same. am getting rid of all taurus emblems & have only SHO on my.

You can definitely hear more noise on the outside of the car under hard throttle.    I have let my 14 year old son work the car hard in a nearby parking lot that is empty on Sundays.  It's his favorite day of the week for that reason.  I have stood outside the car to see and hear what it looks like taking off  and you clearly hear the  "hissing" and BOV with the K&N from the outside.  Sounds like hissing outside the car and sucking air inside the car.

Re: a video, not possible currently - I have a new Galaxy S4 (got is about 2 months ago) and still cannot figure out how to email videos - I get error messages and recipients cannot open.    I will work on it sometime - but don't hold your breath.  For now, go find a tough dumpster cat with a frothing mouth, grab its tail really hard and the sound that comes out is what the K&N sounds like from outside the car.

I have the typhoon and I love the sound: quiet in normal driving condition, turbo spooling sound when engine in load and BOV when lifting throotle in boost. Even more sounds with Torrie 94 custom tune and 3 bar MAP pushing 16.5 psi. It takes like 1.5 sec to blow out when lifting throotle and it produces a high pitch tone.

TSS, as far as the cleaning goes, I've cleaned Air Force, K&N, and Airaid...like you I think it's a pain, mainly the amount of time it takes for the cleaned filter to dry completely, you almost need 2 filters so you can allow the cleaned one to dry...but I have found that a pre-filter keeps the filter amazingly clean.  My Airaid is still clean enough that I haven't had to clean it since install.

As far as sounds are concerned, are people really hearing that much difference from CAI's?
I just find this car to be so quiet to the point of it feeling like I am driving an electric car. Just can not wait for spring to roll around and to tear apart the exhaust and add some downpipes with e-cutouts. I need my cars to make a little noise at WOT.

Has anyone tried to create there own intake that's similar  to the Hennessey intake?
I like that style the best but not spending that much money on an intake. It's the cost of atp turbos

BPD, one of our fearless admins has made one.  I'm sure he'll be happy to tell you about it.  I also think our other fearless admin and founder 4DR is trying to work one out for the masses.

4DR with the brainpower and my SHO are working on that very thing... good appearance and dual intake with good laminar flow... Our target is still higher than K&N and Airaid.  We hope a "one of" can be produced as a prototype under $700.00.. Definitely agree the Hennessey is way pricey.

As far as performance, Mark at Airaid told me they have dyno to show increases of 9 WHP and 15ft-lb WT for 2013 SHO.  K&N hasn't responded but claims increase of 12 hp, and Hennessey claims an increase 25HP    We'll be updating as things progress.  No vehicle mods to show you yet.

Lol. Well after I asked that question I was wondering through past post and found that intake that he has. And it would be wonderful if they are able to get one into production.

From a photo the airaid intake looks better in my eyes than the K&N intake because it has better heat shielded. But from what I have read people have seen higher iat temps with it. Which I find odd.  Though has anyone test intake temps between airaid and k&n.  I would think kn intake would have higher iat.
But if its only a few degrees warner say 2-5 over stock box would increased airflow make up for that at all?

However the short ram tube does look helpful, I still think the best lookin and best performing intake would have to be the Hennessey style. Eliminating all the bends and smaller tubing.

I have always viewed most intakes as supporting mods things that help you squeak every last horse power out of a motor.

I spend a lot of time in the diesel work and intakes make a big difference there.
