Cold start rattle?

I've seen others on the "ecoboosted" facebook page that last a little longer also. I can't find that video though :(

Ouch! That would scare the hell out of me if I heard that on my car.  Hopefully the dealership gets you squared away.

I wonder if it's the sound made by the ratchet mechanism on the timing chain tensioner?.... it has up to seven teeth to use

If under warranty and this is occurring, I'd be going fully back to stock with the ford oil filter to see if it persists. Then to the dealer.

I agree with dealer visit, especially if a new and persistent change. However, I wouldn't wait given the GDI engine's inherent propensity for knock anyway even if only to make sure it wasn't the timing chain.

This wasn't my car or camera use. I've unfortunately only had time to spy on the kids with the GoPro shortly  (lol) and read pages upon pages of instructions. Had it mounted up on the windshield yesterday for a trip into town and ran into no opportunity to turn it on. Video was just one I found to help clarify what it sounds like. Trying to get my buddy with his srt8 charger to run em for a video. But that things a garage queen. Whoever buys his car in the future will get a very well maintained and completely babied ride.

I just changed my oil last weekend, Motorcraft 5W30 with motorcraft filter. Now the start up rattle seems like its louder and lasts longer. maybe whatever is making the noise is giving up......

6 quarts oil?  Time to take it into the shop.  It may be the timing chain, it may not.

i have brought the car in for the noise and they have said 3 times now that they cant get the car to reproduce the knock/rattle

yes, 6 quarts of oil. now i'm just thinking out loud here but the motor only really rattles loud when it has been sitting all night and now that the oil is new not broken down and obviously thicker it rattles more, so i don't think it is a bearing because the knock/rattle would be louder when the oil is thin......Hmmmmm

any ideas?

If you can speak with the service manger and tell him that the noise is only noticeable when the car is cold, and if you can to leave it overnight so you can produce the sound to them, cause if it is the timing chain it is a pita to change on these cars, they also control valve and ignition timing, know that its louder they will really take into consideration to repair it and troubleshoot it.

I think Z is spot on... The Timing chain can stretch and the tensioner may not be engaging properly.

Here's another thread that might benefit you,but as you are probably aware,i would personally switchn over to full synthetic with the m.c filter and see if there is any changes and proceed from there, good luck.Z.  http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php/topic,2178.0.html

Update: As per the info that i read on the above thread i tried a full synthetic and a motorcraft filter and its still the same, actually it maybe worse now. I used that new Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic 5W30.  Here is something to think about..... my car was at the dealer for almost 2 weeks when they changed out one of my turbos and when i got the car back it didn't make that noise for at least 5 days or so. So im thinking it gets better when i drive it less. its hard to say because when i have it its gets driven mutiple times a day
