Damage from car door

At work and I witness a employee open up his door and hit my SHO! I freak out and just from reaction get in the guy's face and it came close to a throw down. I had a dent and paint chipped to the metal but I have to ask-did I overreact? I have a guy that might be able to pull the dent out and I already used touch up paint but this crap pisses me off! I can't stand when it happens to strange cars much less my own but you see it all the time. I can squeeze out from a 12 inch opening without hitting the car next to me but I'm considerate of other people's property and this is the first blemish on my car from this A-hole. My shop manager told me I should have beat his ass!

Well... Door dings are my pet peeve.
The second most expensive purchase most people ever make is their car.  The wanton disregard of another person's property really chaps me too!  I have resigned myself to parking in the most undesirable, and usually most distant, parking slot and seek out the ones where only one side of my car might have a car park beside me and like you, meticulously avoid contact with other cars.... My second pet peeve is folks rubbing against her or dragging a purse against her...more disregard.

That said... Cal a spade a spade and walk away... The dental bills etc. will eat the money that could be needed for the repair.

It was simply inconsiderate of that person to blemish your car in this fashion.  So a bit of reaction is to be expected!

Never worth fighting over. The results of a fight can vary so greatly. Say you whip him good, or just one solid punch to dudes soft spot and you're looking at charges. Win fight but end up the loser in life. Younger me would've thought much different though.

Anyway his insurance covers your deductible for repair? Maybe just him with the intervention of boss?

Amen to this....I park out yonder as well and point the door dings out on my walk into the destination.

The old lady thought I was a little anal mentioning the "women" and their big purses and bags being a hazard up close....thank you for this moment of sanity...lol

I park so far away I might as well leave the car at home. Hah. I check the wind direction too since shopping carts become flying debree around here.

So glad to see that there are others out there who are just like me!  When I park out in the far reaches of a parking lot, evaluating which spot gives the most protection, I tell my wife it's good exercise to walk a little more. I'm just thinking about our good health!  lol

When I need a wheelchair sticker for my car I'll park close to the doors. Until then it's out to the farthest spot possible. And Wasinger I know how you feel about the shopping carts lol.

Hah, I was at home Depot one time on a windy day and witnessed one of those metal lumber carts reach terminal parking lot velocity just before folding in the front bumper and hood of a car.

Justified my 10 min walk.

This winter on a cold and windy night, parked out in the furthest reaches of the lot, I came back to my car and found a large (twice the size of a shopping cart) recycling bin on rollers up against my front bumper. It had travelled across the lot like a heat speaking missile and caused $800 in damage. Yes I got the store responsible for the cart to pay for most of the damage.

Damn that's no good.

I should bring a small fence with me everywhere I go to put up around the car. Hah.

I know these cars are far from exotic and espensive but I like to take care of what I own regardless.

Mother nature seems to have picked up the pace against us in that regard, wasinger.  But the good fight WILL go on :D

I would have gotten his insurance info and made him pay for a full fix and re-spray of the door. This happened to us at the airport last year, we had the ExSport MAYBE a month. Parked it in the airport lot, when we got back a huge scratch down to primer in the door along with 2 nice sized dings. Ended up being over $600 to get the door fixed and sprayed. grrrrrrrr

The worst is when someone just miraculously decides to keep your car company out yonder, a hundred yards out with no other car in sight, parked up directly next to yours.

For real...how many times I've parked at least 20 spots away from the herd to come out and see the only other car in the vasinity right next to me. Makes me look the car over real good before leaving.

YES!  And it's usually a POS car too.

I wll never forget the time the salesman prepped up the car and pulled it up in the front for me to p/up the car brand new with a ding on the door that was just caused by an suv making a delivery,BTW after two trips to Disney theme parks and Universal never received a scratch or a hair(amazing).Z

The worst was when my mom threw the door of her navigator into the M6 and acted like it was no big deal. I always make sure I park as far as possible from everyone at my house.

Well it turns out the ding is in the perfect spot so the dent cannot be pulled out without drilling into my paint now I have to bring it in to a paint and body shop! Damn the luck
