:offtopic: I guess we're getting WAY off topic here in Dave's thread  :sorry:  ... my apologies... but bear with me for one more off topic post please. Then we should take discussion not about Dave's Downpipe install (or at least about downpipe installation) elsewhere.

If possible could you have them or you take pics and maybe a short write up on how it was done ?

Yeah I can snap a few pics. Im going to show him these though and have him drill according to a previous post on another forum.

Thread here, http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/10914-ptu-leak-failures/

I went to the thread and to the photobucket library where the poster had the pics: http://s159.photobucket.com/user/the_natrix/library/Ford%20Edge%20PTU?sort=3&page=1

My question is, since the forum thread and the pics are about the Edge (mostly 2007 Edge),  do the MKS, SHO, Xsport, and other Echoboost vehicles have the same PTU and same housing?

A new thread with the pics of R&R, inside of PTU and actual drilling and plug after replacement would be great.  It's important...

I'm at the shop.  They have the straight pipes out and are going to weld the cat/res assembly back in with sleeves on each end.

Result = smooth-talkin' fire-breathin' SHO!

Right you are my man!  It sounds great!  You can still hear the down pipes and the turbos in the cockpit but the rasp is gone.  It's got a nice low tone out the back.

Congrats! and thanks for the info… research without knowing it!

Yeah, I would have to say either do the down pipes with the stock exhaust or cat back (if you like it loud).

Great info Dave!  Thanks! I like the DPs and the rest stock too, although I bet it's a little throatier without cats...  :clap2: And a tad louder.  Great research!  :thumb: Sounds like what I notice, quiet but with authority idling and cruising with a good note any time power is requested.

do you think there's much / any power gain by removing the 3rd cat ?
Gas smell makes me nausious I can't have that smell esp in my family cruiser with my 3 girls.....

I hate a raw gas smell on a car too. I have, and many others have commented on the quick sooting of the exhaust tips.  It makes me wonder if the engine runs on the rich side at lower rpms so that maintain fuel at higher rpms or rapid acceleration.

There should be some power, but I'd bet the engine likely should be tuned for this to get max benefit. The turbo technology keeps me thinking.  Only a dyno and data logging pre and post can objectively say what the increase is or if it is significant.

Run a little E-85 and sooty tips disappear!

dave-glad you got it the way you wanted it for sound. on the AFR mine without a tune runs 14.4 & was told by my performance shop that it was right on for a non-tuned car & i don't get a lot of black soot on the pipes, of course i clean them a lot, atleast once every week or 2.

Thanks Mike!

I have tried to make sound clips three times now and the wind is overwhelming.  I'll try again when we have a nice, calm day.  But, from the back, it pretty much sounds stock.  Maybe a little deeper.  Inside the car, it has sort of a healthy roar. I'll try recording that too.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!  Hopefully you will get a "quiet" day for another exterior clip :)  What do you think of the interior sound levels while cruising?

thats the catless DP's and with the 3rd cat and resonator back in ?

sounds perfect to me, very nice.

Yes.  Catless pipes, the rest stock.  I really like it a lot.  When cruising,  it is almost silent.  But when you nail it, it has a nice healthy roar.
