I pretty sure I want them with cats and it sounds like ppe are the best option??  Kinda spendy though, I looked at them from ecoboost power parts for $900 is that where you would get them?

Google catless down pipe smell.

From what I understand you will always have a raw fuel smell lingering around the car.

Maybe it's not so much of an issue with DI?

As far as the sound, I guess with stock mufflers you will probably be OK.

Could be an expensive lesson though if you find you can't live with it, especially for 1-3 HP.

On another note...

I can't wait until spring.

4DR's catted pipes and cutout are sitting in my basement.

I do enjoy just looking at the cutout, it really is a work of art.

I ran off road xpipes on my Cobra, GT500, and my Lightning for years.  No abnormal smells to complain about.

I have the catted PPE pipes on order now. 
Yes it's $200-$300 more... but in n AZ I will eventually have to pass emissions. I can live with that as development showed maybe 1-2 WHP loss for the catted version. Even without hoses or DTCs/CECs a visual inspection will tell.  BTW one difference in the cost of PPE DPs is the regular size Magnaflow cat as opposed to the smaller "free flow" cat on most other catted pipes.

As far as odor, my understanding is that it was the cats... and possibly specific to the reactions occurring in the OEM cat.

LOL Tom.  I like the stock sound.  A little louder engine noise would be okay, but not much.  And not at the exhaust.  I was thinking non-catted for the money savings.  That would cover the third cat delete.  Now, I'm wondering if I really need an X pipe.

Stainless Works offers a $450.00 option for Thermal Coating on their downpipes . I Will go non catted because OK has no emissions testing , plus I think it give my Corsa system a little more Rumble /Bark . Plus I will get 4DRHTRD's exhaust cutout ......

Has anyone had thermal coating on their downpipes ?  Im sure less engine bay heat is a good thing with turbo charged engines .....

Personally, I'm going with PPE non-catted (got the newyears special), going to be running it with everything else in the exhaust left stock, I want to see what it sounds like and decide if I want to do more from that point on. Do shops give people much trouble for installing catless downpipes? I do know the owner of the shop that I want to do mine, so I think I am OK, but I was just curious. Worst comes to worst, I can do the work myself, we have a lift at my work.

Man, I wish in retrospect, that I would've thermal coated my DP's.

But as literally the 1st person to have run modded, hand built DP's, it was hard enough at that time, just to get the person who made them for me, to complete them in the 1st place.

Still, it's nice to see the prices coming down overall for that mod, and so many vendors offering them now, along with the thermal coating option. Very cool to say the least! k:

Along the lines of install, and whether shops give their customers grief (about installing them) I suppose that can depend on where you live, and said respective State's Emissions Laws.

I know in IL, it's a real PITA to get someone to install them here, as our Emissions Laws are incredibly restrictive. Not as bad as Cali's, but pretty darn close.

If you reside in a State that has similar, restrictive restrictions, I would suggest keeping mum about who did the work for you (if you happen to find a facility that will do the install that is).

I wonder if the thermal coating could decrease heat saturation in a metal CAI tube... and if that would be enough to make a difference in performance. 

I also wonder how long it takes to cool off once it is heat saturated, which it will be eventually, regardless of application, because at this point at least some of the benefit is lost, especially with the relatively sealed engine compartment in the SHO as it radiates heat.  That is to say... Do you reach a point where the under-hood temp stays higher due to heat radiation with the coating?  So I'm wondering if it is mostly an appearance option.

I searched for an hour and can't find any real testing numbers, much less in any auto application on the coating effects (including Stainlesss Works ThermalCoat) on any temp.. Anyone with experience or a link?  :dunno:
