exhaust need a retune?

Im kinda at a power stand still right now. Ive worked and talked with LMS and they are a great company and awesome customer support. With that said they dont do much custom stuff unless they do it. My car right now has a full down pipes back to tip free flowing exhaust the guy that does custom race car exhaust for a long time im currently running a true duel and I dont know if this is causing my problem tomorrow we are going single 3 and go from there car acts like it needs more fuel. I cant WOT the car starts missing its got new plugs gapped .028, 02 sensors, all fresh fluids. The car cruises fine drives nice no miss untill WOT. Im being told that I dont need any upgrade to my tune because the down pipes are already in the tune I have now. If I have a much more free flowing exhaust I would think it would need it. once again correct me if im wrong. Thanks

Which version of the tune do you have, what fuel (and which gas station) are you using?  Winter fuel is weaker than summer fuel, so if you want to go WOT, you should use a 91 tune with 93 or higher octane fuel.  How long have you been running this tune, and was it problem free when it was warmer?

Plugs should be gapped to 0.030 per LME. Are you using NGK plugs?  Also, going to WOT requires that the engine and trans be fully warmed up before you do so, else you run the risk of engine failure.

X2 What current tune R U Running with? sounds like your on version V9 Tune and need to get the latest V10 tune which is by far the best tune to date and no exhaust does not need a tune only DP.....noticed you installed 02 sensors what year and how many miles on your SHO? New or used? See the Beauty of setting up an INTRO!!!!.. Z

Ive got V*+ tune V9 V10 they all do it I run SHELL 93 problem didnt start till after I removed stock mufflers we had all the mid section done and left it that way till he got a muffler combo I liked. I changed 02 sensors car has 46,000 on it I was trying to rule out all possibilities ive had the plugs a .030 also. Thanks

On the ecoboost platform a tune is NOT needed for CAI, Exhaust, etc. Infact even downpipes do not need a tune for performance, only due to CEL. This is from talking to AJP.

Do you have any datalogs of the issue?

well I can clear a little up I removed the true dual set up I had on and went to a single 3 inch set up car cleared up so for people to say that these cars dont need tuned for cat back maybe but for a catless sytem I think they do any of the guys with running dumps are they not tuned for open exhaust? Custom exhaust needs custom tune is what im feeling!! I have ford 534 spark plugs and motorcfraft 02 sensor it hurt buying them but couldnt figure out why the car was missing the way it was with the combination of me messing with E85 the cold weather and exhaust all happening with in a short time I really didnt know what else it could be.

Well, you have downpipes AND turboback, so the likelihood of needing a tune is greater.  Those two things together can definitely make a significant impact, for better or worse.  Doing one OR the other?  You have a restriction in your system either way.  The intake flows quite well as has been repeatedly demonstrated.

So you had E85 mixed into the fuel when these "misfires" occurred?  How much?  Was it mixed in before the turboback swapout, and if so, was the car running fine at WOT at that time?

Anything over E15 i would suggest a tune adjustment....running more E is a bigger change than how much catless pipes change volumetric efficiency.

I still dont think people understand how much different E blended gas is....even though the tune can slightly compensate for E blends, that is not the intended use of the adaptives and sensors...people do it without adjustment but it happened out of luck and chance

I would try pump gas and see how it is

Yes im back on pump gas 93 SHELL Ive got to get a custom tune but think its running good now with my sual set up I didnt have a cross over pipe to equal out banks. I waa running E30 as seen that it is making great power and there are a couple people that are tuned by LMS that were using there race tune that is what I was doing also. Car isnt running the times id like to and want the benefits of running E30 so we will see where this goes. Thanks again guys this forum and ones like it are a great tool.

If you think about it the stock ford tune is actually optimized for E10 due to the stoic point they use....so the stock tune is a custom tune for E10....so that tells me a custom E blend gets a custom tune

me and my friend were both kinda shocked that the exhaust would do this to the car ive read where people were doing open down pipes but had a tune for it. looking at the high dollar corsa exhaust its a true dual set up but people utilities the third cat or put x pipes in which I did not.

That means your trims are having to compensate nearly 20% from stock which is not ideal. Getting your stoich dialed in properly is the best way. (unless LME brings their full FFV option to the table) A couple percent is no big deal and this will keep your fueling much more accurate which results in far less random KR spikes which can be a result of your fuel not being dialed in. The ECU will over and undershoot the target the farther your trims are off and it will take longer for it to be dialed in. It will get there but your logs won't look pretty and like I said, it will take a while longer. When I'm doing things correctly, I can fill up, take a log after a couple miles and its good. After a fillup, the car only uses short term correction for about 7 miles after so you will see your ST's increase temporarily and when they get back to 1, you know you're set assuming you haven't screwed with your blend and have consistent E like we do here.

This, the E dropped from like 78-80% to around 60% percent here due to winter, and I was able to tell at the LTFT was compensating after almost a quarter tank worth of driving. On the most recent fill up, I put a bit more E than I did previously, and all is set properly again.

When I put on the stainless works downpipes and Corsa catback exhaust, I had the exact same issue as you. Around this same time, I had the overboost condition being thrown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrhBu5XtafU (ended up being a hose)

I've always had issues at WOT with my car on the LMS tune (with the downpipes, without the downpipes, with the exhaust, etc). They were the worst with the o2 sensor delete + downpipes.
