Exhaust suggestions

I am no expert when it comes to cars, especially Turbo cars. I have read all kinds of posts about different exhaust set ups; 'delete the third cat, something about a resonator, 2.5" piping to muffler X, etc.' I was originally going to go with a Corsa exhaust. But that's pricey and may be a little too loud, for my girls. I am definitely gonna go with PPE catted down pipes. What is a good, better flowing exhaust set up that is not excessively expensive and not too loud?  And please, give me the "Exhaust for Dummies" version.

If you want to keep it quiet just do the dp's and leave the rest stock.  Once you remove the stock resonator and mufflers it gets loud.  For the money to performance benefit (IMO) just have a shop dump the 2nd/3rd cat.  Cheap effective mod to increase the flow a tad.  Leave the stock 02's off the turbo alone.  You are never going to feel 10 hp gain by spending 800-1000 bucks.  Good luck

I should also point out that I live in IL and MUST pass emissions testing, hence the 'catted' DP's.  No visual inspections, they just plug into the obII.

2 option.
1st) If You are into track racing go with d-pipe with cut-out before the 3rd cat. Max pwr and sound at the track. Stock sound with good pwr add on the street.

2nd) You can go with a local shop removing the 3rd cat, add x-pipe, 2.5" exhaust pipe, and have the stock muffler welded on with 98% of max pwr (seat of the pain feel) or have DynoMax and  stock muffler swap in/out when you go to the track/DD.

I have my car set up like this for road trip with the wife. When LMS Dyno-tune my METH I pull out 405awhp/417tq. Here the sound with the DynoMax, METH, D-pipe, X-pipe, 2.5"-pipes. NEXT time I put the stock mufflers on I will have to record the stock sound with all the MOD's.

new down pipe,x pipe,and 2 5 exhaust sound check

I have catted d-pipes have to here in GA. I got married in July and have not set up my paint shop at the new house yet. So I have not had time to add my new paint upgrades before going for ROTM WIN!!

i'm a broken record on this but i love my borla. has a nice deep tone but not overly loud, but a bit louder than magnaflow. it cost is right in between corsa & magnaflow. downside is special order w/6 wk delivery but they hit it on the head. not on their site, but can order thru summitt as they have they part# for it.

Do you have a video or sound clip of your borla? Inside and out? It's extremely hard to find clips of the magnaflow and borla installed.

this isn't mine but what i used to buy mine, not high tech on recording, so don't have it on mine. my friend with an '09 Challenger has magnaflow regular not the attack version, which wasn't available when i bought mine, so had a good frame of reference. inside sounds good at low speeds up to about 40 nice deep rich tone, once you get highway you don't here it which is what i wanted.
Borla Exhaust on 2011 Taurus SHO part 2 or just put in borla exhaust on ford sho. it was a guy with a 2011. don't think he's on forum though

bpd Mike's exhaust setup still produces the best sound around, IMHO, but it would mean custom work.

As soon as you hear the word custom, high costs creep into people's head, but the two local shops that have quoted me to do a custom exhaust are more inexpensive than the cheapest cat back out there. The bigger benefit is that a custom set-up can get you 2.5" piping where the manufacturers cat backs are only 2.25".

I'm just throwing this out there. Let me know if this set up would work or not. If not, what am I missing.

Go to a muffler shop. Remove stock exhaust. Have them fab 2.5" pipes and run it from the down pipes to aftermarket mufflers?

That would be a custom catback exhaust.

You get what you pay for ..... The Corsa system is expensive . I got mine for 1250.00 including shipping .... Super easy install . The only time it gets LOUD is when you put your foot in it . At normal  cruising speed down the highway I really dont think it is loud at all .

I just installed the corsa system and let me tell you it is quiet when cruising bit loud when you need it to be. I am loving the system so far. Here is a link to my video of the sound. The only mods I have is an unleashed tune and corsa catback http://youtu.be/23JW9Fay39o

The only challenge is finding the right shop. Most places don't do - mandrel bending - which is key to optimal exhaust flow. I've only found 1 reputable shop here in long island where I'm from that does it (although I haven't had much time to look around so far).
Going to just any muffler shop, although it's much cheaper, it won't flow as efficiently.
With normal pipe bending the piping gets narrower at every bend in the pipe causing a bottle neck in the flow,  restricting performance.
Most well known performance companies do mandrel bending. Borla, Magnaflow, and Corsa are great examples, hence the pricing vs a basic muffler shop.
