First time at the track with the MKS

I ended up on last minute kid duty anyways.  The track is open until the end of October, plenty of turbo happy cooler nights ahead.

I'm thinking about going tonight but damn it's going to be hot.  I am running a tune with the stock t-stat at the moment, I wonder how much that will hurt me.
Weather sucked, but it was a good time.  I always end up at the track on the hottest days.

I'll be heading up at least one more time this season....I'll post on here again to see if anyone is interested.

Also FWIW, tech inspection has been basically nonexistent.  Guy asked if I'm stock, I say yes, and then writes the numbers on my windows.

Definitely agree after 5-10 revisions and getting her dialed in properly you should be in the 12's in no time, its like having a brand new car you just need to be patient until she is broken in properly and keep us updated on all fronts.  Z  :thumb:

So how did you guys run?

My best was 13.658 @ 101.18 (Unleashed tune, 3 bar) and it was my first time on the drag strip.  However, I need to try again but in Sport mode and it was another hot and humid day.  I look forward to going back again soon!

EDIT: AND improve launch technique  :)

Did you mess with tire pressure or launch rpm? Mine got consistent 1.8x 60fts with tire pressure between 26-28 with stock Michelin's and brake boosting around 2200. Just getting your 60' down will drop your et considerably

I didn't mess with tire pressure at all and I'm on stock Michelins.  I need to practice launch/brake boosting for sure.

Looks like you should be about a 13.0 which is on par for first revision Torrie tunes.  For every .1 in your 60ft you roughly lose .2 in your quarter mile time.  1.8 60ft should be easily accomplished once you get used to brake boosting.  Don't worry about your R/T as it doesn't factor in to your times.

If you share the full slip we can give you an idea on how you were launching and what to expect when you get it down. How many revisions on the tune?

All 3 runs attached.  I was not brake torquing much which is something I want to improve on in addition to R/T as well.  I'm looking to break into the 12s but not get too crazy as I still want a consistent/reliable daily driver (not exactly sure if that combo fully makes sense.)  This is the first tune from Unleashed, no revisions yet.

I'm trying to get that brake boosting down and hope to be in better shape next time!

How are you guys launching that are getting 1.8 60 foot times?  I feel like I've had some really solid launches but still can't beat 1.9.

I've been break boosting, taking RPMs to just over 2000 and letting her rip.

Not all "brake boosting" or "brake torquing" is the same.  Some of the guys who run really quick will hold the brake and throttle until the car actually builds turbo boost prior to launch.  Others, like me, will bring the RPM up under braking but not hold it long enough to actually see boost.

I am not 100% comfortable putting the amount of stress on the driveline that a "boosted" launch creates.  Besides, when I have tried it, my glazed worn-out brakes will not hold the car.  My best 60 with just a 2000 RPM launch without building boost is 1.89.  I know from playing around with my Aeroforce gauge that just an off-idle launch will cost at least 2 tenths on the 60 alone.  While slight, there is a hint of turbo lag with an off-idle launch.

And make darn sure that your traction control is turned off.  On a brake boosted launch, I forgot to turn off the traction control and thought that I blew something up in the driveline.  The TC overreacted and shut down EVERYTHING.  The car was lurching forward at about 3 mph and would not gain speed.  Eventually it gave me power back.

Tried it again with traction control off and was able to turn over all 4 with ease.  My brakes hold a brake boosted launch, but my worn out Michelin's do not.
