Ford Edge 3.5 EB Swap Project. SL EDGE Hammer

From best as I can tell both the base 3.5 duratec and 3.5EB block are very similar and share the same motor mounts and tranny mounts in the SHO and Flex

Project  SLEDGEHammer

So I am  thinking that it is pysically possible for the 3.5 EB  to fit into an AWD  Edge , since the 3.5 duratec in the Edge is the same as the base Taurus 3.5.

I've always liked the look and feel of the Edge .

Everyone here knows I like to be different  ... L O L

The Two major obstacles , IC choice and fitment , get one for a Flex or XSport or a custom made one. Then many modifications with grill area to fit it .

And then there is the ECM issue .
There are aftermarket ECM's that can  be used ..

Chewing on this idea seriously as a long term project.

Massive says the 2.0 ECO head is a direct bolt on for the 2.0/2.3 duratec.

I wonder if the same is true for the 3.5?

From the ouside the heads look very similar but I'm thinking a complete low mileage engine tranny pull from a salvage yard .

This would be a very very big under taking. It where me I would be looking for a complete EB engine and trans and PTU to boot along with engine cradle. Now the electronics would probably next to impossible to figure out, but I believe stand alone ECM are out there now. More power to ya SR.

I'm gonna take a wild guess that the BCM won't operate without the ECM in place.

Not that I'd know anything about. But think maybe be able to fool edges ECM into thinking engine and everything is ok. And use after market engine management system to control the EB engine. If possible it would probably give you the most flexibility for tuning. I don't know how the do it, but I've seen guys that mod and tune BMW's and they use stand alone ECM's. So would assume they still are using the factory ECM for everything else.

Good luck with your project but be prepared for this:
Face meet wall...
:)
I don't like to be negative but you're going to be the pioneer on this and it will be super expensive.
I get contacts all the time on my shop about transplanting EB into other chassis and I warn them away from it every time. The DI controller from Motek is SUPER EXPENSIVE, they're the only one I know about.
I would suggest maybe short block from EB, use Edge heads/intake manifold and upgrade injectors and fuel pump.
See if you can slap on the factory EB exhaust manifolds and turbos and then do custom exhaust.
To fit the IC I would look at a water to air as they can be very small for under 600HP, just need a small heat exchanger for the IC.
I would be this would be the easiest route.
You might even just see if the EB crank can fit into the block and then CP Carillo rods/pistons, you'll also want to swap the tranny internals into the other car.
Try and keep it on stock ECU as much as possible and stay away from DI, it's a PITA to upgrade.

4DRHTRD  ..... So the base 3.5 duratec is not DI ?

A modified not necessarily eco  .. boosted 3.5 sounds easier as far as ECM stuff is concerned and Torrie can tune the  3.5 duratec , he tuned Lansons .

No 3.5 duratec is PFI
Yes you can tune the 3.5 duratec fof boost, lots of boosted Mustangs. :)
Readily available injectors and fuel pumps for it.

Mustangs have the 3.7 duratec dont they , same engine basically I think ?

There are several 2012 low milage AWD EDGE's I've been eyeballing lately.

I've made up my Mind , a non eco ..... Boosted EDGE with the Heart and Soul of a SHO !

Stick with the 3.7L if you want to mod.  More goodies for it, probably just because the engine is available in a Stang.  The selection is VERY poor if using the NA 3.5L, despite the potential user base.  Having a good fabricator and machinist in your Rolodex would be a great idea too!

When considering a base, do you think it would be better to start with the standard duratec 3.5L @ 285hp / 253tq, or go straight to the big bore 3.7 Mustang "cyclone" Duratec also found in the Edge Sport @ 305hp / 280tq ??

OOOORRRRR...start small with the 2.0 EB engine at 237hp / 270 tq, upgrade the already equipped BorgWarner K03 turbo...then slap the delivery system on it from a 3.5EB and crank up the tune??
Or better yet, leave the BW turbo in place and add a secondary larger turbo to make Ford's first bi-turbo power plant.

I have no idea what potentially doubling the HP of the 2.0 would result in...I'm just spit-balling here.

Awww...Manu, you ninja'd me! Snuck it in there before I could hit "Post" LOL

regardless...I still want feedback.  ;)

:ninja:

If you are willing to lose AWD, then the 2.x EB engines are a possibility.  Custom transmissions are even more of a Pandora's box than engines.
