Fuel Economy

Installed tune, cai, corsa cb, stat and plugs last week. Noticed yesterday exhaust tips were very carboned out, after ½ tank of fuel. That got me wondering if it’s running to rich. I never even paid attention to my economy gauge, so I thought to look at it. It said 18.4 average (thats after tune and some hotrodding)  I pushed the reset ok button and have drove just a few miles around town(w/no wot), cant really get it over 13 ave. Probabley need to run it for a while and see whats really going on?

My mileage increased after I tuned it...also bpd has stated that you shouldn't reset the economy after each tank, the longer you allow it to continue the truer the reading will get.  I still say the best way to determine mileage is to do it the old fashioned way, miles divided by miles driven.  Overall I am averaging close to 22 mpg. I have been keeping the SHO mileage record at Fuelly.com, it's a great way to track mileage and have a record of all your fill ups.

spot on mj!  if you want to see instant then check it in the left display options... let the other roll...... I'm getting 20-2.5 overall.........  :tease: 'cuz I can't control my right foot at stoplights.

Mike... at 13mpg with no perceived performance problem I'd be a little concerned about a fuel leak or XS fuel being pumped into the cylinders.  Data logging or reverting to stack tune to see if mileage improves could answer this concern if your sure the tune loaded correctly.

I get 15.5 MPG, bone stock. I have tried to drive like a "normal" person, but it doesn't get any better. It could be that I literally do "city" driving with a lot of stop signs like 90% of the time. Maybe that's the problem.

I don't know what stock mileage is average for 2010 SHOs... but I jackrabbit every start when i'm first at a stoplight up to 50-6-mphj (FUN!)... and I do 95%surface street driving with 20-21mpg stock....

Hopefully some other members like mjhpadi with 2010 models will weigh in.

Just filled up again. I'll keep a close eye this than and see what's happening. My average is 13. But my instantaneous seem to float above 20 most of the time

I usually get with no mods whatsoever.
about 14-18 mpg in city and about 25-29 on highway.
I was really impressed when i averaged 9L/100km or 26.1 mpg on a 971 km round trip to Vancouver threw the mountains.

How do you calculate your numbers? With the the cars system?

I can't even figure out my trip gauge. We went looking at lights last night ang my average is up to 15.6 now / some freeway and some residential

Mine is stock, with 9,400 miles.

Been averaging 20 MPG on the money both in the data center in the gauge cluster and backed up with miles/gallons. My mileage is pretty mixed. I'd guess 50/50.
Driving habits are moderate. I'd say tame to mild. Not overly aggressivr. Though, I do have my moments.

Hey, can't complain. I always got 20 in my turbo 4 in the Mazdaspeed6. Always a consistent 20. I think 20 is impressive for the size, heft and power of the SHO.

My MPG didn't change after the tune.  The computer average is showing anywhere from 20.7 to 21.  I calculated it a few times to backup what the computer is displaying, seems on the money.

I drive 60-70% highway, but 70-80 MPH, and I hit traffic sometimes.  I would think that 15 MPG is low, but probably within range.  I normally saw high MPG with my Volvo S40 than most others and I drove that pretty aggressively since it was a manual.

Mike.... If your new plugs are gapped 030 and they are the 1 step lower heat range from stock as recommended with a tune....one step left.

Fill up. zero the trip gauge... drive about 1/2 tank... fill up again and then use the miles on the trip reading and the gas it took to fill up to manually calculate mpg.

IF the computer "average mpg" reading seems way off this in comparison (>5% or so) I'd recommend a trip to the dealer.

Thanks everyone. What initially drew my attention to mpg was my new catbacks tips getting all carboned out after just 1/2 tank , a lot of wots though, testing tune and exhaust. So I started fiddling with the gauge, before I reset it the average said 18.5. I wonder if that was the average of the whole sum of miles I put on the car 4k. After I reset it I could hardly get over 30 mph for the next hour of driving and that's when it was reading 13 mpg ave. sense then I've got to go on the freeway a little more and now my ave is up to 16.6 probably 1/4 to 1/2 tank sense reset

Around town I'm looking at 15-16 and on the highway I'm getting 23-25 depending. All stock. 93 octane.
What I am finding is that I feel that I am getting a hesitation every now and then and if I really get on her I can blow out some black carbon which I feels is clearing things up a bit.

I have 13 model, track package, 17k on clock, instake, exhaust (corsa), LMS 93 octane tune, lowering springs, TSW nuburg (huge weight savings), and 245/45R20 DSW's.

I do about 1200 miles month for work; lot of highway; get around 21-22 mpg. Close to about 400 miles to tank.

When I drove to Texas in November (1600 miles one way) I got 25 mpg with average cruise set at 80mph.

I think the black tips are normal for being tuned.  Mine get pretty dirty in between washes.
Mine get all covered with soot and I'm still stock... I think it's 'cuz I cN't keep my foot out of it... LOL
