Full hard pipe CAI from FastLaneTurbo 3.5 EB

I had quizzed Bob on this before he left the site.  I don't think he installed his at the track, which I did.  You can't compare two different days, as conditions(temp, track prep, humidity) are never the same.  I never did get an answer?  According to my unscientific testing I gained, but very marginally. Bought the Airad and installed it at the track.  I made a pass stock, then installed the intake.  My results were a net gain of .05ths and .3mph.  Definitely not a loss of 2ths and 2mph.

Maybe I'm wrong here but.....

.05ths? Seriously? Better hookup could make an improvement like that right?

As for the intake... keep in mind that bigger is not always better. Other factors include air speed, temp, velocity, compression. The style could be to create a venture effect for all we know. If open created more poer, better fuel econ and smother running engines then that's all we would see from the engineers that design the systems. I'm not saying that there isn't improvements to be had but they tend to come at the cost of something else.

If you really want to create a better system may I suggest an enclosed box (like factory that has proven lower IAT's) with tubing that has some heat reflective tape or materials to help keep heat out. Stainless/ aluminum etc. pretty but not good for heat resistance and cool down.

By the by even on the exhaust side bigger doesn't necessarily mean better. Too big you lose back pressure and thus some torque. More HP yes but its torque that makes us smile. ;)

As always my thoughts and things I type are IMO. :P

Kinder..... I agree entirely... as long as the flow is enough, the smaller the piping the better.  The piping will get heat soaked, but if air is drawn from completely outside the engine relatively sealed MKS/SHO engine compartment it will be cooler entering the piping as well as cooler entering the turbos if it moves faster in a smaller tube... It's just not there long enough to heat up.

For performance just replace that saxophone, that's the restriction... the factory intake is not a restriction... dyno proven on my car x3 as I have detailed elsewhere.  Beyond that it's eye candy and/or sound.... and nothing wrong with them either!

Revised Full True CAI for transverse 3.5 EB from FastLaneTurbo

Final install pics this evening and the SHO will be on the Dyno  with Resulting GAIN .
Bonus to include eye-candy appeal plus noise fluff !

I have musical instrunments in my intake !!!!!??? ok well that has to go ! what is it ?

I drove right past Fastlane as I have several times before and never noticed it. Sorry guys too busy to stop this week !

I hope to see some serious improvement to justify the steep cost.

The cost is higher but when i look at the K & N CAI i think the product development went something like this.....

Hey you go to the parts room find a piece of J pipe left over heat shields and whatever the cheapest cone that will fit....

10 minutes later..... Hey boss got it done..

Boss thinks to self.. "excellent" no tooling costs and i only have to pay him 15 dollars for Joe Dirt's fast work.... Hmm i shall sell this for 300$$$$ excellent profit margin

LOL.

I could have rephrased that; I guess my point was--I'll pay the price point if it's worth it -- I'm content with my awesome Airaid (that's a joke). I just don't want to spend $1000 on a waste if you know what I mean. If I get the same "benefit" from the airaid or stock box forget it. I guess I want to see proof that the removal of that rats nest Ford did actually benefits us.

Everyone can speculate day in and day out; but I'd like scientific fact.

More finished install pics .....Dyno Results soon.

Bad data connection earlier .
This SHO is in the process of being tuned by Fastlane with Magna Flow catback installed by them .
They are using an SCT X4 for tuning .I'll get clarification on tuning info .
Car came to Shop with 87 (Duh .. !) in it so owner has to burn it off before Dyno  tune session and re dyno .
More info soon .

that must be someone else's SHO ??

Are they going to tune it then dyno before and after on this intake ?

Interesting find by panther427 on FastLaneTurbo

I spoke with Nick at FastLane and they are fabing a changed design of this for an install on friday . He is going to email picures of the components and final install then .

It is fabricated from aluminum .

A 20HP gain at least is guaranteed by him.

http://www.fastlaneturbo.com/fordtaurusecoboostinduction.aspx

Updates as soon I get them .

If you go to the BEGINNING of a Post sometimes Clarity occurs .

This SHO with  ( not the above pic )  the Modified  CAI is Red , mine is Sterling  Gray Mettalic  , I'm just  trying and Help the forum members here
I'll end up buying one of these for sure .

I am also the  primary reason  ( no gloating intended ) that Megan Racing is going to have Coil-Overs for the 13+  3.5 EB transverse platform avalable for sale this summer . I'll buy those as well.

Its called being INVOLVED in this community.

Ya… someone else's … SW's is sterling grey.

I hope they have hood open dynos on the same SHO with the stock box/filter, then with no box/filter ( just the factory "saxophone"), then with their CAI….

and since it's an "open box" design relying on the heat blanket of the hood to seal it…. It would be interesting to see a hood closed dyno for a fourth and  last pull… or maybe one without the filter on theirs too.

Then info to evaluate the performance aspects would be available.

I'm very interested due to previous dyno info

The owner of the SHO will be back at FastLane sometime towards the end of next week between the 16th &18th .

The SHO is untuned but when it returns , FastLane will put it on the dyno with 93 octanseee in it and do a base pull with the only mods consisting of the CAI and Magnaflow catback exhaust .
I am not sure if they did a base pull pre CAI , but if someone could find what an untuned base is on a SHO it may help . I don't know what year the SHO is .

After the  untuned dyno pull they are going to flash there  own CUSTOM tune file  , a 93 tune that is there build .
They will then do another dyno after the tune is flashed .

I'll post the graph results .

Options for coatings on CAI and heat shield  are none ,  high temp black or silver/gray engine enamel  ( or your choice of enamel color ..  a little more $ ) with clear coat finish or for an extra fee they will send it out locally for powder coating in your color choice , this will cost extra .

They  can do in house  HydroGraphics on it as well as well ... more $$$ as well .

Lastly they do Custom HydroGaphics on engine covers , underhood components  ; valve covers and intake manifolds and other stuff in multiple print and color options  .

More info as I get it .

IIRC....... 2010-2012 SHO's displayed a stock dyno pull ranging between 277-281awhp.

Hope that's of some help. :ok:
