Gear indicator

Is there a way on 2011 to have gear indication while in "d" mode while driving? The gears show when in manual mode.

If it is found that it can't be done OEM, I wonder if someone makes a gauge that displays R-6 numbers, would fit in a pod, and could be wired in to the circuit that displays when in sport mode?

Yesterday I downloaded the Race Meter add on since I love my Torque display. Torque has a gear indicator available in it's menu but it is not supported by our OBD stream. Race Meter makes it's gear indicator available by computing RPM and speed. So I have yet to do the one time calibration. Once done, if I can take the Race Meter gear indicator and incorporate it into my current Torque gauge cluster I will be happy. If I have to switch to a Race Meter display to see the gear indicator.....not so happy. Race meter initially strikes me as flashy and a bit gimmicky and not as serious as Torque. I hope Race Meter wins me over.  Have to wait and see.

I'm not an electrician, but it seems simple to me. It has to be triggered when car in manual mode. Which means a relay somewhere. Then ideally, bypass the relay and voila! Any electricians to confirm?

I have seen nothing mentioned about this and I'm still interested myself. I think I understand a bit more about doing it in Torque with a custom PID, but I don't know any more about the dash display.

I thought of this a week or two ago as well.  Hoping to see someone find a way to activate it!
There is member here that I believe is a Ford Tech that has been able to activate other features through rewriting certain ECU parameters . I cant remember his name .
He was able to make the display show the AWD display power percentages to front and rear and a few other things as well.

Anyone remember who he is ?

I could swear mine shows the gears in D once I hit the paddles. Not sure if they stay but will check and post when done work.

I had a rental Fusion Titanium 2014 that would engage the paddles even in D.  My 2012 MKS will not.  You need to be in M to use the paddles and see the gear display.  Pretty sure the Fusion didn't keep the gear number shown that long either.

jcl78, I think.

Hopefully whomever that tech is will see this post and chime in. Again, seems simple to just change a relay itself from manual trigger to always closed. If I had wiring diagram, I could probably figure it out myself. Anyone have a wiring diagram?

Mine will show the gears in D, but they disappear after a few seconds.

I think this might be a difference between the 10-12s and the 13+ since they have different a different dash display.  Mine is a 13 and shows the gears when in D and you hit the paddles.  Although it turns off showing them once you let off the gas for a little while and not shifting.

That sounds more of a software issue rather than as built data. And no it has nothing to do with triggering a relay. Everything is controlled by firmware and software these days.
