Grinding Noise w/ Stability Control Light ON

Good morning Gentlemen!

I'm sure someone has come across this before..........I'm just not sure what it is to research it.

However, I was cruising this past Saturday around 40-45mph & all of a sudden the Stability Control light starts flashing off & on & a loud grinding noise is accompanied with it!!  It wasn't constant, but it did it 3-4 times for like 3-4 seconds a piece.  I was not on a slick road.........no water or ice.

I would like to find out from you what the problem is before I take it to the dealership.

Thank you for your help.

Whatever it is, sounds like your stability control freaking out. I had one where from launch, I forgot to disable stability control and it went into limp mode. I wouldn't think this should be happening at those speeds. Was it during WOT?

Most likely that IS the PTU.  There is a TSB related to the PTU acting up at cruising speeds, though grinding is not specifically mentioned.  A distant second & third might be axle (since you have a 2013, is it the right side) or hub.

I was hoping someone was going to tell me it was the PTU.........I have not had the time to get that TSB resolved.

Thank you!!

Hey MJE, I don't really have anything constructive to add, but I was curious how many miles you have on your SHO?

Hi MiWiAu.  I have 69,000 miles on the car & about 6,000 on the new engine.

Cool, thanks. I have 33k on mine, and I'm just waiting for PTU issues. If it does happen to be the PTU, it would be interesting to see a Blackstone analysis of the gear oil. The 30k analysis on my PTU was not great. Have you ever serviced the "lifetime" PTU fluid?

I have not.........but obviously will very soon!!

If you're already grinding, it might be past the point of no return, but it certainly couldn't hurt, although, if you have an extended warranty, you may want to let the dealer diagnose it first before messing with your fluids.

I'd be willing to chip in for analysis of the old stuff, if you are so inclined. :)
