This guy.

40K and the fluid had been changed on it before at the 30k mark. Fluid was still clear but unit was getting loud.

Not tuned either, driven spiritedly but no harder than my crown vics. Not really happy about this. Ford was gracious enough to hear my rant and offer me a no charge extended powertrain warrenty to 100k or 2017.

Sounds to me like you made out okay.  Except for the down time.

What symptoms did you have? Noise? Vibration? Im in the midst of troubleshooting a vibration now with Ford Dealer. they're having a Ford engineer come out to drive it with me because the dealer finds nothing wrong. Im convinced its the tires.

^What he said.

Who'd have thought...
I just replaced a car with the SHO, which I was forced to swap a PTO (PTU) into, in my own garage, because of catastrophic failure. Not a pleasant experience. Probably worse on a car that weighs 1,000 lbs more, and the size of a bus.

What's up with drive components these days? Made out of glass, I tell you.

Had a low frequency vibration/hum in the front of the car consistent with that of pinion noise. A Ford dealer diagnosed it as bad tires, i swapped tires with a friend, same thing. Took it to a lincoln dealer around the corner that i buy my ford parts from for the shop and they had it diagnosed and a new ptu installed and back a day later.

I guess i'm too used to my Crown vic's being built like a brick$hit house. Wish cars were built like those still.

Sad part is, this car is still much better than the Chrysler 300 SRT it replaced back in 2010.

This bums me out, I too have a low frequency hum upon deceleration/acceleration at low speeds. Car only has 8,000 miles. Should I be worried?

I would get it checked out.  Don't forget to return to stock first.

Wonder if there's a TSB on it?  Maybe one of our Ford guys can comment.

I just got my car back in time for the snow. FORD did me right, But my extended warrenty let me down(Endurance). I had 60,065mi when I went in. They said Ford told them that I HAD 59,999mi coming in and FORD NEED TO FIX IT UNDER 60KMI warrenty. Long story short Ford paid for the PTU and labor but I END WITH $500 CAR rental bill. IT was 2 1/2 weeks rental bill.

THERE IS NO TSB OR NOMAL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ON THE PTU but the forum thinks ever 30kmi the oil in PTU should be change. You see what my PTU LOOKED LIKE AFTER 60Kmi.

My car was a bearing noise. After opening the PTU the only hard damage was the oil was burn to paste. My service manger agree that service it ever 30k may save the PTU.

Excellent news... your dealer did right!

2010 sho non-pp built 11/09 delivered . 4 years on the nose when the ptu was replaced.
the oil that came out of mine lost all its viscosity when i changed it at 30k and was severely discolorated. I replaced it a few more times within a thousand miles till the oil coming back out was clear. Then i switched to Amsoil 75W140 and it stayed clear in the 10K i put on it since.
