Guess who's car just got a PTU under warrenty...

Is it a PP equipped car?

To me it seems like it is definitely thermal breakdown, worse on the non PP equipped cars (or whichever has no aux cooling).

Generally, Motorcraft gear lubes are considered pretty good.

What year is your car? The reason I asked is that on 2013 plus, the car sends power to the rear as soon as brake is applied with throttle. So wheelspin should start in the rear and then bleed power forward when the rdu hits its power limit.

Mines a 2010 non PP car.

I will agree the motorcraft 75W140 lube seems to be pretty good as the factory fill goes 300K in the town cars. I do notice they discolorate around 100-150K but these cars are always loaded.

It was a totally new PTU. Dunno about which vent it was, its right on the unit with a little cap on it.

Got about 14oz out of it, took 16. oz. Too small of a capacity for sure.

97k miles, had a gear oil smell out of the blue. I took it to the dealer for a key fob issue and told them about the smell, I had the forum pulled up on my phone already because I knew what was happening. Got a call the next day saying the PTU is leaking and will be replaced under warranty. My car is a 2010 PP, untuned at the moment.
