Help Diagnosis the Problem: Smoke out the Exhaust

SRT82ECOBOOST

New member
Shortly after having my PPE catless downpipes installed and tune changes made, I started to have some white/blue smoke coming from the passenger side exhaust only. It only does it if I am running the car hard and into the boost and then when I stop there will be substantial smoke behind the vehicle. I had my mechanic take off the downpipes and he thinks that the turbo on that side is not blown and is reinstalling the stock downpipes as I write this. The car also has not thrown a single code.
I have a read a couple of threads across different forums including this one, where this very same problem has occurred after putting catless downpipes on to a car, but there was never any closure on the cause or if just throwing on the stock downpipes solved the problem.
I would like the experts out there to weigh in on this to see if there is a reasonable solution to fix the problem before I strip the car down to stock to bring it to the dealer to roll the dice with their diagnosis.
Any and all help is much appreciated.

I have been following your thread on TSB 14-0113, but can not find any location to the actual TSB, just mentions here and there in various forums.

Sounds like a leaky turbo, sense it only presents it's self to one side if the exhaust.

My mechanic does not think it is the turbo but possibly something like a piston failure. I would think a piston failure would make some noise or throw a code. I guess it is time to find out how understanding of mods my local dealer is.

I am not a mechanic, but you would notice a piston losing compression; But if a turbo was getting a bit of oil by because the seal is bad, You wont notice it performance wise until its done--Just plumes of smoke

Stupid question, are you still using your third cat or have a X-pipe installed?

IF so, why would only one side smoke?

No third cat and I really don't know why only one side would smoke, but it very well might be turbo related.

So if your exhaust piping never crosses over then you definitely know its the rear bank.  If I was a betting man, I would say Turbo.

Does it still smoke with the stock down pipes?

John

Did not get a chance to test if it smokes with the stock downpipe before I dropped it off. Shop foreman is taking it for a drive right to try and get it to smoke.

So the dealership has had the car for two days and can not make the vehicle smoke out the exhaust. So at this point I have to attribute the smoking to the PPE catless downpipes that are now off the car. If someone is looking for catless downpipes I will have some for sale very shortly.
