Looking to buy an ecoboost, mostly here for more info

I'm looking at picking up a Ford Flex EcoBoost as the "family car". I'm mostly here looking for more information.

Like how much power can you get with the stock turbos and pump gas?

Max power with stock block + fuel system but upgraded turbos (again pump gas)

What is the stock turbo size

If I did want to upgrade the turbos what should I go for (looking to make 400whp on pump gas)

How much power can the transmission handle?

I absolutely love my flex, 400hp can be done without turbo upgrades.  I have no idea what the weight difference is between the sho and the flex.  I read somewhere that the engine is good to 700hp, but don't know how accurate that is...  as for power through the trans???  I would say you have to worry about the PTU over anything else.  I couldn't tell you what my flex has for power since I have no all wheel dynos in my area unfortunately.  I may have to take a drive someday.  I too would like to do the upgraded turbos with what I already have but that damn PTU worries me.  But I may just bite the bullet.  Good luck on your decision.  but I can assure you that you will love the flex..  You will have more people than me respond that know a hell of a lot more than I do.

Wow that much?

What would I need to do to get 400whp? Tune would get it to 340whp. Could I get the last 60 with intake, and exhaust? (I have to keep it catted)

Also have any more/bigger pics of your flex? Looks nice!

I couldn't tell ya exactly what each will get ya. But there's a lot of great people on this forum that can tell you what you want to know. So you have come to the right place. And thanks.

i really wouldnt worry about the ptu so much, they're actually fairly cheap, decently easy to replace and when you replace them you can do the newer one and add the cooler and get the one with the drain and fills.

I just found this website

http://www.full-race.com/articles/inside-the-ecoboost-f-150.html

They are checking out the F150 ecoboost motor and says the Connecting rods + crank are fully forged, with 6 bolt mains. Does this also apply to the ecoboost in the Taurus, Flex, and Explorer?

I have no idea. But ford has done some silly things with the Cobras, like 03-04 kick ass rods and crap Pistons then the new gt500's kick ass pistons and shitty rods.

Also, I don't really worry about the PTU but I have seen a spline gear blown outta a new police explorer. Lol.  I do plan to change the fluid though.  I wouldn't be surprised if the 3.5 is all forged though. Interesting...  I'm sure someone on here knows forsure

The f150 is has some forged internals and bigger turbos.
The transfers ecoboost does not have forged internals  and it has garret t-15 turbos.

You can have your transverse ecoboost rebuilt to include the forged components from livernois.  A few members here have had it  done. I'm sure It's not cheap, but you got to pay to play.

is it a space issue that the f150 turbos arent the popular sho swap?

yup

i keep wanting to pull the stock turbos and extend the manifolds and Y them into a bigger single turbo heh

Someone did a stall, can't remember who and it didn't do much in the SHO. Maybe someone else can chime in on that one.

it'd have to do something...usually good for .2-.3 tenths, but they are GREAT for spooling a turbo.

my 5.4 4v turbo car I am building is going with a 88mm turbo. It'll have a 3600ish stall.

I think it was darreli who had done a Circle D stall converter.  Actually hurt the 1/4 mile by a tenth.  Hope he chimes in.
