3/8 hose for the ptu fluid may work better.  although it should be freely flowing still at this mileage.

I was meaning the 1/4" hose for replacing the PTU Vent hose so I can get the new fluid down from the top. Per this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2t2YR1LVN3s

Were you meaning for pumping back in or suctioning out?

I'm 99% sure I used 5/16" ID hose when I replaced/extended my PTU vent hose. I think 1/4" may be too tight.

How much oil did you get from the PTU when you drained it?

I don't recall exactly. When I first pulled the drain plug, a bunch went straight onto the driveway, so I never got a good measure. LOL Based on what I captured, and what I mopped up, I'd guess 16-17 oz.

I did a refill, drove for a few dozen miles and drained it again. When I drained it the second time, I pulled up on a ramp on just the driver's side, so it was listing toward the drain plug by quite a bit. I got all 18 oz out that I had added when I drained it this way (and didn't lose it in the driveway).

After drain #2, I added fluid from the top with the plug out until fluid coming out looked clean. Not sure how effective this was at flushing out the junk or if I was just wasting oil.

Did you have to use an oil extractor to get all the fluid out or did the drivers tire on the ramp allow for it to drain sufficiently without it?

I did not need an extractor. My understanding is that the extractor is used on the PTU units without the drain plug when fluid must be pumped out of the fill hole. All 2013+ XSports have a drain plug, to my knowledge.

I do love what you can learn from Blackstone and other online sources concerning fluids. Especially if you are buying a used car etc and want to learn what going on inside. However, I also dont care what Blackstone says. The oil is coming out of my vehicles long before the OEM recommended distance. This applies to any fluid in my vehicles. Also, remember if you are still under warranty. Most clearly state the mileage interval 3500-5000 and /OR 6 months. Which ever comes first

Its only an oil change. It dont cost that much or take that much time. Its not rocket science.

I'm quite the master of engine oil changes. We were previously discussing PTU oil changes which is a little different bit of Kung-fu first time through.
