Might finally be time to worry about the transmission

Ok:

So this has happened to me (once or twice)
and it seems to happen On a Bumpy Road Uneven roadsurface.
From a Dead Stop, AND doing a Drag Style launch,
Car does not come out of first, just skips off the rev limiter,
and it is a little unnerving (to say the least)
no problems at the Drag strip or smooth surface :-\

There are many trans/PTU related TSBs for the Gen 4.1 SHO, you should take a look:
http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php/topic,496.0.html

There's even one for a 5th gear start, for example.  That is fixed by replacing the transmission range sensor.
6F50/6F55 TRANSMISSION - SLIP/NEUTRAL OUT - 5TH GEAR START FROM STOP - BACKUP CAMERA ON IN DRIVE - BUILT 3/13/2009-6/30/2010
TSBID: 180543 Mfg Num: 13-5-27 Issue Date: 2013-05-27

Then there's one for a slip on acceleration, caused by a broken orifice restrictor cup plug.
6F50/6F55 TRANSMISSION - DTC P0751 - HARSH OR NO FORWARD ENGAGEMENTS - PERCEIVED SLIP ON ACCELERATION - SLIP/DELAYED AND/OR HARSH DOWNSHIFTS
TSBID: 171494 Mfg Num: 10-9-9 Issue Date: 2010-05-11

Car must have been low on fluid right from the factory, that would be pretty sad!  Have you had LME lower the shift pressures a tad for the 1-2 shift?

Yes i did get the soft shift V10 but the 1-2 shift was actually worse with the stutter. Now i only get 1 or 2 stutters before shifting to 2nd when WOT. I have flushed the trans twice to make sure fluid is correct. 6k miles on the car.

Have you had the appointment at the dealer yet, rowland, for the smoke out the exhaust issue?  Any signs of fluid leaks from the transmission or PTU?

Yes i did. Ended up being overfilled from the dealer with oil. Also thinking when i had the passenger side on the ramp and the car leaning over to help burp the system after TS install.

Also is it normal on the first few flushes to get a couple specs of brass is what it looked like. Still get the 1-2 stutters for the 1st to 2nd shift WOT

There's always some breakin material/debris in the early miles, be it engine or transmission.  But it should be very fine material, not stuff that would easily show up on blotting paper unless there was a significant quantity of it.  And most of it should be caught by the drain plug.

Do the stutters happen when the stock tune is loaded?  How many miles have you put on the V10 tune, i.e., are you comfortable that the relearn has completed?

Not at all with the stock tune. Have about 300 miles on the v10 and have flushed the trans twice with new fluid. Also tried the soft shift v10 tune and it was worse for 1-2nd on the stutter 3-4 stutters. Now only 1-2 on the v10 normal tune.

Might want to try the V8 tune, that has been around for some time.

Gonna ask some stupid questions here:
1. You are running 93 gas, right?  E0, E10?  Winter or summer fuel?
2. When you say flush, did you actually flush the trans, or do a drain & fill?  Motorcraft Mercon LV or some other fluid?
3. When not going WOT, there's no stutter?  Engine/trans warmed up before going WOT?  What are the surface/ambient temps in your area?

I haven't loaded it yet as i was waiting a week for this tune to hopefully change.

3. When not going WOT, there's no stutter? No  Engine/trans warmed up before going WOT?Yes 30min of driving min  What are the surface/ambient temps in your area?Around 55F-70F Surface is smooth road and straight line.

Does your SHO have the Performance Package, rowland?  Does the stutter still happen with AdvanceTrac completely off (ESC and TC)?  Maybe there's a new calibration that the dealership can put on (ask them)?

Gonna pipe in a little late on this.

I recently switched over to a Livernois tune (V10) and love it.  But, because of the 1-2 shutter, I went from the regular 93 tune, to the softer shift 93 tune, and today down to a new 93 tune that puts the 1-2 pressures at or near stock levels.

If you drive the car nice for a bit, the stutter goes away as the adaptive learning knocks the pressures down.  But, after 3 or so WOTs, the stutter returns for a while -- I assume because the computer adjusts the pressure back up in response to your aggressive driving.  I would also assume that, with stock power, that increased pressure "percentage" was fine, but is still too much for the new power.  Just a theory.

Your car is still running OEM fluid, John?  You might want to switch out to Amsoil Signature (even if you have lo miles right now) and see if it helps.  Aggressive driving demands better products supporting/protecting your ride.

John,

I also still get the stutter after 3-4wot pulls not back to back but if in the same few days with the stutter coming back. Also have the softer shifting tune.

I've never had it on 3-4 shifts - though I'm not sure I have the nerve to still be running WOT at those speeds :). Your other option would be to ask them to return the pressures to "near stock." That has to help, though might not completely cure it. Tell ANTHONY that another guy on the Internet just got the tune you want - he will remember me.

Shod - funny you ask. BG trans flush in the morning - though they insisted on using BG fluid. I at least confirmed it will be LV certified.

I have Redline on my tool bench for the PTU and the RDU. Will be doing that myself next week.
