Oil Pressure and Temp

Let's think; any ideas where? Even if it involves drilling and tapping the oil pan?

I'm not too keen on this filter adapter that Leadfoot uses because Ford is doing my oil changes. I really don't want to run the risk of them not tightening down the adapter and filter and next thing I know I'm leaking oil. I rather find somewhere we can drill and tap. I want temperature and pressure prob somewhere.

This is what Leadfoot uses and I'm a little weary because again, I don't do my own oil changes--I can't where I live.

I wasn't saying pan for pressure--I was using it as example.

I'm trying to think of places where I could tap. The pan is easy for temperature, but for pressure I need somewhere else besides the filler cap.

This was so much easier on my damn diesel--I had more gauges than BPD in my rig.

The sandwich adapters sure are much easier to install. I'm not sure I'd worry too much about the grease monkeys not being able to tighten things down properly. It's not too complicated and tightening the oil filter should torque everything. If it starts leaking, take it back to them and tell them to fix it for free cause they're incompetent.

As for pressure, we have idiot lights for that, so I wouldn't worry about Oil Pressure... but I understand the issue.. On our 502 boat.. we religiously watch oil pressure!  Actually, I would worry more about tranny oil temp in our EB vehicles.  It is easy to monitor engine water temp which if it goes too high, would indicate oil temp issues.

Get a small tablet and install torque and get a bluetooth OBD2 adapter.
Or you can get crash's gauge pod and get the PLX OBD2 gauges

I'm in the same boat not wanting to use that sandwich thing.  In my old GrandPrix I just removed the sensor for the idiot light and installed the sender for my gauge in its place.

The pressure sender for the SHO is pretty close to the oil filter.  I was thinking of making a tee or some adapter to put the ford sender and my sender into the factory location's mount.  Anyone know what size threads are on the factory pressure sender?

Read over my "How-To" install on the Auxiliary Oil Cooler Install....

Towards the tail end of it, I placed an "optional" part in there about tapping into an used bolt/screw in which I placed a sending unit for my Oil Temp Gauge located in my A-Pillar Pod.

I see no reason why couldn't use the exact same location for an Oil Pressure Sending Unit instead.....

Worth a look at least. Hopefully it's of some help.

I saw where you tapped that old "bolt".  How do you torque it back down (or get it back out) if you've cut the hex hole out of it?

Well, if memory serves me correctly, once we drilled the hole, and used a die to thread/tap the drilled out hole, we then placed the sending unit (into that hole) and then torqued it back into (the original opening) as one solid piece.

Never thought much about having to remove it, or take it back out quite honestly.

I chose to think of it as a permanent install, rather than something that'd be R&R'd with any degree of frequency.

I already have Chris' gauge pod--it's in my closet. I got another guy making my a custom dual pod on my a-arm like Mike. Hopefully that'll be done in next month or so.

Thanks Mike. I saw the photo and it's a pretty good idea--I could essentially use that for oil pressure and then tap my pan for oil temp.
