P0430 code why??

First time poster long time reader.
So to start I have a 2013 sho with 20k on it, while being stock for a year I had no trouble with it.
About a 1.5 weeks ago I installed a 170 t-stat, 3 bar, airaid, and Torrie's 93 3bar tune. Haven't logged yet.
When installed I originally had some misfire issues, found I had cracked the porcelain on a plug during re-gap, so I
replaced all of them with new gapped at .03" give or take a .001" just to be safe.  Car ran great for 20-30 miles or so.
Actually it is still running great, it has just been throwing this code.
Its came up two times and I've cleared it with my X4. This is all within only 30 miles of driving.
I bugged Torrie yesterday about this, and he said he's never seen this on a stock exhaust SHO. So with that said,
I figured it has nothing to do with his tune.
Any input would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you and your '13 SHO here.  The p0430 code could be a coincidence.  Shouldn't have been caused by any of the parts you replaced.  Now downpipes might cause that.

Did you get the new plugs from Torrie (what plugs did you install)?  Tried returning to stock and see if the code pops up even then?  Any oil on the old plugs/plug wires?  2013 at least, you sometimes find valve gasket leaks on the rear bank.  Check for pinched wiring from the oxygen sensors.  And there is the possibility of a stuck injector, higher demands causing the problem to surface.

If everything checks out, it could indeed be a bad cat.  A catalytic converter cleaning product like CataClean may work in this instance to clear out contaminants.

thanks for all the quick responses.. You guys are awesome.
So I didn't notice oil on any plugs/plug wire's when I replaced them.
The plugs are the autolites from Mike with his stage 1 kit.
have not put the car back to stock to see what happens yet, if I do and the code reappears i'm gonna see if I can beat the
system and get some warranty work done to solve it.
As for the wire checking.. do you know if this code is telling which cat it is? I only checked the O2 right in front of the motor and I have no clue which side is bank 2....

And yeah I do need to get some pics up.

Thanks!

I'd defer to Torrie on that, but spikes are OK, sustained boost at that level on the SHO is not.  Bank 2 is radiator side of the engine.

with the mis-fire issue you had may have fouled the O2, or even damaged cat. raw fuel in cat causes cats to over heat and melt down.

ahh.. Good thinking.
So Torrie said he could turn off the code/sensor like done for cars with exhaust. Does anyone think anything bad will come from this?

I would NOT turn off the code/sensor without being quite certain there is no issue with the engine, but that's my opinion as a conservative driver.  Especially since you still have a warranty in effect.  At this time, I WOULD return to stock (no tune, no 3-bar, plugs re-gapped to 0.035) to verify no codes pop up.  Then make sure you are running brand name 93 octane fuel, put the mods back on and check again.

Now, you COULD have Torrie dial back the tune a bit to not have the boost spikes you saw earlier and see if that changes anything.  Give him a datalog or two to work with if you haven't already.

I agree with u SHOdded.
Yesterday I even took a 100 mile drive and switched to a 87 octane 3 bar tune that Torrie gave me. Never went over a few psi and around 50 miles in... There was that annoying light again.
So back to stock I go and when it pops up again, off to the dealership and act all kinds of ignorant.
Um... This light came on so I figured I needed my oil changed. Hehe

Thanks for the help.
Can't wait to get my power back. So addictive.

I would mention to your service advisor regarding TSB 14-0102 which is related to po420-po430 code set and needs the PCM,power control module reprogramed with the latest calibration, and see if your particular model is affected, good luck.

Can you update us with what ended up happening?  I'm in almost the same solution (except without the t-stat, 3 bar, and airaid).  I get code P0430 with his most aggressive tune, but not with stock or other tunes.  I see you said in a newer thread that you had an o2 sensor replaced, was that related to this?

Thanks!

I have PPE engineered downpipes and that code will only go away after I return the tune to stock and go through the "readiness for inspection" procedures. After inspection I re-install tune and go through it all over the next year.

Old thread but, I have a 2013 sho with PP, 170, 2 bar stock tune, windstorm cai.....I get the PO430 lately with either a custom tune or the stock tune.....car runs and drives great...other then the code
