Power to mycal

Has anyone else ran into this. I have to plug the mycal into a USB power source to get it to kick on. The obd port alone won't get it running. Crappy part is while writing a tune, I couldn't leave it plugged into the USB in the car. So I had to run an extension and use my phone charger. I think this is absolute crap, none of my sct tuners have ever had an issue like this.

Never have had an issue with the MyCal in my SHO. Been working flawlessly for many years now. Day in. Day out.

In fact, I dumped the SCT I had because it wasn't anywhere near as capable as the MyCal device is/was.

Maybe things have changed in a few years since, not sure?

I know there were a small batch of the MyCal tuners produced by AIW that had issues & needed to be replaced.

Maybe yours was one of those affected in the batch?? Either way, you shouldn't have to do what you are purporting you've had to do.

You'd best be served by contacting LMS directly & working it out one on one. Good luck.

It was hot the day I tuned it but the mycal is brand new, just shipped from lms and hadn't spent any time in the car yet.

Roger that...pretty sure Livernois will send you out a new one ASAP. I'd call them the expedite the process.

Looks like they are going to mail me a new tuner. Props to lms for handling business!

I had one of the bad ones.  The replaced it for me, but the new one doesn't seem a lot better.  I had to try 3 times to get the tune to load and I've been afraid to mess with it since.

Are you having the issue where it says turn key off at the end of programming process? If so, you need to open door at this point so the auxiliary power isn't on.

^^^ Agree with Rich, it happens to me. Open the door after you switch off the ignition at each prompt to do so. Then close the door and turn on the ignition at the prompt.

I don't have a MyCal, but I agree. I always leave a door open when flashing a tune for this very reason.

I wonder the long term durability of the my cal tuner, and how long its covered for,and the procedure to acquire a new one if the old one breaks, because surely overall it looks like a cheap made quality product,(just stating the facts). Z

I would pay a pretty penny for a quality all in one that flashes, datalogs, and had a suite of gauges I could mount. X4 is pretty meh but it only costs $200 so I put up with it.

The other option would just sell the damn software to run on Windows.

It would be pretty cool to obtain a PAT on a similiar device with a built in scanner also. Z

Door was open the whole time. I really think the quality of the mycal sucks. It feels cheaply made and the screens don't even have good resolution. My sct x3 that I use for my cobra seems better made.

For some reason during the process of programming the vehicle with the door open from the start, I think the accessory power becomes active, so during that last prompt to turn car off (still another prompt to start after this) it doesn't register car is off and then repeats itself. This is why I start process with door closed, so I can assure the off request is met by opening door. Works everytime for me.

Well we hooked up my mycal to my raptor and there was still no power. The issue wasn't with the door or me not doing something right. It's with the mycal. I hope I didn't make the wrong decision going with lms and the mycal.
