I'm not sure what's going on, but fragile windshields seems to be a current issue going on across many newer makes and many models. Google it!

Oh, I'm sure it's frustrating. I meant, it's pretty weird that it seems to be transcending the entire industry. Mazda all of a sudden (like past 3 years, with new Skyactiv vehicles) is having an issue worldwide. I'm not sure what to make of that. ASAIK, it's also a task to get OE windshields for the Mazda's too. But, I know Ford uses the sound deadening type. I'm sure that just makes availability even more limited.

maybe they're going with thinner windshields to save weight for better gas mileage?

Seems the Ford Soundscreen windshields are thinner glass and lighter according to an article I found.

They are probably making windshields extra thin these days to get rid of every last ounce they can without adding to the cost of the car. And that's a cheap way to shed a little weight.

I remember the C5 ZO6s had thinner windshields than the other Vettes. One of their weight-saving measures.

Trip update. Made it to the west coast. The f150 is doing pretty good for mpg considering all the mountains I've been through.

I drove ever mile of that lol. Made it to cali in 3 days with stops to see stuff along the way in colorado, utah and Nevada. Only half way done with this trip.
