Random thoughts for the day

Has anyone tried changing your water to coolant ratio since Optimal Coolant Ratio Depends on Your Climate for added benefits....

FWIW I was thinking of a 70/30 water-to-anti-freeze mixture and prior to winter switching back to 40-60.

Here's a good article below.....

Since the lowest freezing point is achieved at a 40/60 water-to-anti-freeze ratio, there’s no added benefit to using more anti-freeze. Therefore, if you live in an area that will never see less than 26°F, your car’s performance will most likely be optimal at a 90/10 ratio year round.

If you live in an area that can see temperatures as low as -10°F in the winter, but can also get to 95°F in the summer, then you’re better off running a 60/40 ratio. However, if you’re one that may get stuck in traffic with the air conditioner on during the summer months, you may want to make the switch to a 90/10 ratio until winter hits again to get the most out of your car year round.

Make sure to read your vehicle’s owner’s manual to find the coolant system’s capacity so that you can figure out how much anti-freeze to add!

Its funny they mention a solution they found online it to drill a 1/16"hole in your CAC (Intercooler). THIS PROCEDURE CAN CREATE A LEAK IN THE SYSTEM!! HA!  Z

Yup! But it don’t try to argue that point with the F150 crowd... they get all pissy!

Its simply not supported on this Forum! Z

I will need to revert back to stock Tune plus having No Meth for a few days is going to be a tough task in order to get the I/M in Readiness state for my annual emission testing.  Z

Glad I don’t have emissions where I live... although my current SHO would pass just fine...

Good luck, and just enjoy the nice smooth ride of a neutered SHO...

How the heck does one drive a SHO in stock Tune!

One must appreciate the overall performance while being Tuned & all!  Z

I just completed a weeklong vacation to Estes Park, Colorado in the family truckster on the stock tune, in order to save money on gas.  Actually, it was the stock tune, with P0420 & P0430 disabled, because of my Livernois downpipes.  Over 46 1/2 hours and 2433 miles of driving, I averaged 22.8 mpg.

Road Trip Notes:

1. 80 mph speed limits in South Dakota are pretty awesome.
2. Judging by the number of bikers we encountered, Sturgis is an even bigger deal than I thought, and I knew it was big.
3. Mistake one small calf for a goat, and you'll never hear the end of it.  I swear it was a Black Angus goat.
4. Hadn't been to Mount Rushmore since I was a kid, and it's pretty darn impressive.  It should be on everyone's bucket list.
5. How does "The Chain" not make it on Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits album?  Also, my 6 year old son likes Fleetwood Mac.  Good kid.
6. I saw a campaign sign in Wyoming for some guy running for coroner.  Huh.
7. It's always cool to see animals that are not native to where you live.  During the trip we saw buffalo, elk, pronghorn/antelope, burros and prairie dogs.  I would have liked to see bighorn sheep and moose, but we did not.
8. The Rocky Mountains are really beautiful.  I wish I had thought to bring a GoPro to record some of the mountain drives.  Some of the drives are a little nerve-racking for a middle-aged guy with a heart condition, though.
9. Gas out West sucks.  85 octane, WTF?
10. Wyoming appear to be not much besides a bunch of cattle ranches and a few oil rigs.
11. Driving beats flying hands down.

It sounds like you had a cool time! I took several trips to FL with the SHO and a few trips to Pure MI which was cool, but fortunately never encountered bad crappie gas & 93 octane fuel was readily available. .
I have to agree its nice driving down there but had some close calls with deers, which always try to take the extra necessary precautions @ deer zones @ night.  Z

Yes, we had a very enjoyable time.  My wife loves the mountains; she went horseback riding there a few years ago.  My favorite part was driving through the canyons, with winding roads along the river.  Very cool.
