Really Ford ....

So I love my car but I'm sick and tired of having to get parts and getting F'ed for it. Today i was in a Walmart parking lot parked my car at the end of the spots for the sake of safety to my baby, come back and a few cars placed around in various spots hop in the car look at my passenger side mirror its fold in and the mirror is cracked... i think wow there's nowhere safe at walmart. I straighten it out and go right to Ford ask parts guy how much a mirror is? he says "okay so the mirror is..... oh well actually your going to have to buy the whole assembly and that's $465.00 + tax" ...WTF... A mirror really?? so that's my rant for today

Sorry to hear. I agree, just no place safe to park at the big box stores. I had a nice fender/bumper scrape last Feb. while parked at the end of the Walmart lot.

We had the same mirror problem once with a Chevrolet. I found someone that could cut a mirror (glass) to the same shape and I managed to pry the glass from the mounting and glue the new one in. Of course, being a Chevrolet, the mirror was not heated, no blind spot warning, and didn't auto tint.

That may be the only way that they sell it, but I guarantee you that the mirror glass removes.  it pulls off after you use a little screwdriver to release pressure on one of the clips. I've done it both sides on a 2010 SHO. If you can find a wrecked donor car, you are all set.

I wouldn't blame ford I would blame all the go go gadget **** that we like on our cars....actually sounds cheap to me...like said above considering heated, power, auto dimming, courtesy light, blind spot warning, and break away folding....is not ur dodge omni style mirror anymore

Blame the dealer!!!  They are the ones who feed you misinformation and BS.  I clipped my garage backing in and broke the mirror off.  All I needed to replace was one part. The dealer told me I had to buy the whole mirror assembly. I bought the one part I needed from Tasca and fixed myself. Honestly, I think the service guy didn't know what he was talking about. He was asking more questions than information he was giving. Also, this particular dealer, that I no longer visit, routinely told me parts cost more than what Ford's website advertised them for.

You have to be your own advocate and do your research.

I could imagine if they had built in turn signals like the X-SPORT and luckily our mirrors are not color coordinated to match the vehicle, those two combined will add a good chunk on top of the bill, best of luck to you and glad there was no body damage.

I feel for the situation.... But as much as I hate to say it the best solution may be valet parking so inconsiderate people can't even test their parking skills!

I had a valet guy park my 350z and he couldn't get it in reverse because u have to push the stick down....I don't trust anyone anymore...people are idiots and if something doesn't belong to u it won't get the same level of care as if it was your own

Title should be...Really My Ford DEALER tried ripping me off

It may NOT be the dealer, it may be Ford Parts only supplying them with the major assemblies. Its much easier for them to stock the whole deal rather than all the little pieces. I grew up running a truck parts warehouse (my dad owned an IH dealership in Texas) and it was  that way back then.

It is the dealer . 66galaxy posted a link for just the mirror from Tasca .  Some people in service and parts don't feel the need to really try and help people out..it's comical to me but most parts guys that I deal with are like bumps on logs, they don't move much or fast.

this bump on a log guy here worked for ford, mazda, yamaha, brp, husqvarna etc... At the dealership our hands are tied on lots of parts that you think would come separate from the assembly but the manufacturer does not sell or offer them that way.. so yes that is where the aftermarket comes in and does on occassion sell certain parts that you can not buy from a dealer.. Even working at dealerships I am constantly searching the aftermarket and the web for parts that I know I don't need the complete assemblies for..

Tasca is not aftermarket and they had the mirror glass....If you are a good parts guy then you shouldn't be offended if you are a bump on a log then I can see why you didn't like my comment...I just get sick of having to give the parts guys the part numbers for what I need when they tell me a particular part is the same between a sports package/non sports package car.

Have been through that with my Honda's, Mustangs, Infiniti...Most people don't pay attention to detail so it makes my life difficult.

All I was saying is ALOT of the time you can't order certain parts separate.. I see Tasca is a owner of many dealerships and allows you to look up your own parts.. that does make life alot easier for certain things especially if it is an over the phone parts order.. plus not having a vin to eliminate all the odd parts choices helps also.. I am not defending parts departments nor saying your wrong.. I have worked with alotta lazy parts guys where if it doesn't jump right out at you on the screen then the answer is simply.. "nope not available" I run a parts department now of 4 people and it chaps my ass when I see one of them say CAN'T within 30 seconds and then point out after the fact that the part was right there in front of them!

THANK YOU!!! Ive been searching and all I'm finding is full assembly (dealerships) or donors that I cant find at all or the part is already gone. I also did not mention that he had the mirror on screen but he said it was for base models so i am assuming no blind spot, extra stuff.

I agree that yes its not "ur dodge omni style mirror" but the internal part and "go go gadget ****" is completely fine and functioning, the issue is why is FORD not the individual dealership or store if you will only allowing dealerships to sell full assembly when the other parts are available individually from other vendors. I gave the parts guy my last 6 or 8 of my vin it came up as full assembly because of the extras yet the base without the extras is available to be purchased (just the glass) the actually assembly is the same of both mirrors but the only difference is the glass and connections sooo yes i blame ford because 1. Ford is only allowing there parts guys to sell full assembly for specific trims and 2. Ford and all big company don't care about the little guys and just want the $$$$

I bought the last NOS Omni Mirros I could find online for my 86 GLHS, they weren'[t cheap either.

I backed my XSport out of a tight packing spot next to a concrete pillar late one night when I was too tired and busted it up pretty badly. Intergral turn signal survived as did the base but the change angle motor, vanity outer surround and the glass didn't.  I was in about $330. after all was said and done.

Glass isn't just glass anymore ...  I am sure cameras will replace at some point, along with self-parking.
