Remote start

Yes I also noticed the range was short on even Fords old little square fob... but when he did his after the fact he went with Fords upgraded 2-way remote and it has much better range.

Donky...I am in.  I gave you my email in my PM.  Can you put me in touch with your friend so I can get this done  :)  thanks so much!

Donky -

I talked to your guy this morning and we are in the process of setting something up for next Saturday.  He is REALLY knowledgable!

In the meantime, I need to go to the dealer because I already have 4 admin keys programmed and he needs an empty slot  and to erase one (or more) all research I am able to find and the manual indicates I need to go to the dealer.  I will get over there this week and disable one or two fobs.  If anybody here can save me a trip to the dealer and knows how I can do it - let me know. The fobs are easy to program (up to 4 of them), but erasing them is a whole different story and process.

In any event, lets try to meet up and take a peek at each other's rides.

This thread got me to use my remote start on my 09 G8 for the 3rd time last night.  Impressed my wife!

Yeah, I use it only occasionally in the Summer with our Enclave (and my past 3 GM products with remote start).  So if I lived in FL like you, it would not a big deal to me.  Living in MI, it is a big deal!  SO thankful to Don (Donky4444) for the info and the hookup.  Getting mine installed by his buddy Saturday at high noon.  Had to go to the dealer today to have them de-program my 4 fobs and reprogram just 2 of them so there were slots available.  Once the Starter is installed, I will reprogram the third fob myself. Dealer (Ford Dealer) was very cool.  Service manager originally told me 35 bucks to do the de-programming, then told me not to worry about it when it was done - no charge.  Good business IMO.

Big thanks out to Don aka donky4444!  His installer put my Viper remote starter in today. I also got to take a ride in Don's car and enjoyed talking cars at breakfast. Anybody who is in Michigan who is considering a remote starter, we have a guy to do it! It works flawlessly as described above and at a great price. I am psyched!

Clifford is made by the same company that makes Viper, Directed Electronics. I don't have any experience with any Clifford products, but I'm sure they make a quality product as I've had nothing but positive experiences with Viper.

$300 installed including the Viper and upgraded interface. So I can't really give you a breakdown of what the labor cost alone would have been.  He is a great family guy trying to get ahead and earn a few extra dollars working weekends.  Best Buy has it for $275.00 plus tax etc....but that does not include the upgraded interface that he prefers to use.  He was neat, quick,  and truly knew what he was doing with the push button start complications.

I'm glad you're happy with it. It was nice meeting you and  your son. Always a good time talking cars and checking out each other's cars.

I wouldn't let any dealer do a remote start install on my car!  Take it to someone who does them all the time.

Now for the (at least) 2013 there is a cell phone interface addon.  Its a super easy install (besides taking the whole back seat/rear deck of your car apart), works anywhere your cellphone and car would have signal, no extra key fob, and you don't have splices in your wiring.

The smartphone remote app can be set up here:

I believe there is a $50 yearly charge with that.

I did the Compustar P2W901-SS in my 14 SHO. It's a two way confirming system with up to 1-Mile Range! The transmitter tells you battery voltage, internal temperature of the car, antenna strength, standard time, standard time turns into a run down timer when you remote start your vehicle, and much more! I did the DroneMobile app along with it as well. One can start their car from anywhere as long as they have cellular coverage.

Compustar offers a two year warranty on the transmitters and for everything under the steering column (Key security interface and control module). Where I work we install them and we offer a lifetime warranty on our labor for as long as you own the vehicle.

If any forum members from Minnesota wants a remote car starter with actual range let me know! I can offer discounts to EBPF members!

System is very capable... I did a little looking and have a question: Do i need a subscription to Drone Mobile to use it on my phone?  I'm not anxious to have another fob.

Sounds like a great system. I love using the phone to start my car.

Did you consider the ford app before going with this remote start system?

Yes, DroneMobile does require a subscription...Basic plan (Lock, Unlock, Start|Stop, & Trunk Release)  is $50 a year or you can buy 3 years at a time for $100...their Premium Plan (Lock, Unlock, Start|Stop, Trunk Release, Panic, GPS Tracking, Internal Vehicle Temp, Antenna Strength, battery voltage, and vehicle status (lets you know if the car is locked or unlocked and if the car is running or not)) is $119 a year or you can buy 3 years at a time for $300
